Hello Mumsnetters! Ah the age old question. How should this name be spelled for a first name:⁣

Elliott or Elliot?⁣

I have now overthought it and have no idea what I prefer or think any more 😂🙈

Just to confuse matters further, DS has a friend whose name is spelled Eliott. The family are native French speakers though, which might be a factor.

abiirthdaycake · 20/05/2020 16:36

I associate it with Elliott Smith first and foremost so I always vote two Ts!

IncrediblySadToo · 20/05/2020 16:38

One T is plenty!

@SporadicNamechange. Yes being French is definitely a factor it sounds different too!

disappear · 20/05/2020 16:40

Elliot for first name, Elliott for surname.

daisypond · 20/05/2020 16:40

One T.

Hagster · 20/05/2020 17:16

Thanks for that so far, it sounds like one T is more popular?

One T

bridgetreilly · 20/05/2020 18:18

Elliot.

Staffori · 20/05/2020 23:49

Yes, no need for the second T.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 21/05/2020 01:09

one T.
Two tees is for the surname.
Absolutely cutest name ever, since E.T.

Hagster · 23/05/2020 21:25

@wheresthebiffer2 ☺️♥️

I’m not sure, but I love the name!

bettyboo40 · 23/05/2020 21:30

One T

janed9388 · 23/05/2020 21:32

One T! Although you need to accept people will constantly misspell it.

Menaimum · 23/05/2020 21:59

I would remove either the first or second T, up to you 😉

DramaAlpaca · 23/05/2020 23:14

Elliot for a first name.

The surname is usually either Elliott or, more rarely, Eliot.

Ineedanewusername · 23/05/2020 23:16

I have one wirh two ts. Everyone spells it with one t.

Hagster · 24/05/2020 07:26

@Menaimum 😂 but how to decide which one to keep?!

OP posts:
Ineedanewusername · 24/05/2020 08:01

If i could go back i would have one t.

Pinkarsedfly · 24/05/2020 08:03

My Elliot has one T.

But loads of people give him an extra one anyway.

Epigram · 24/05/2020 08:07

Elliot

Ineedanewusername · 24/05/2020 08:29

@pinkarsedfly thats really funny because thats why we went with 2 ts. We thought all the ls and all the ts.now people (even family) spell it Elliot. I prefer it with 2ts as it looks more balanced to me but i think its a name that has lots of different spellings. I still love the name though.

GaraMedouar · 24/05/2020 08:47

I would go with 2 t’s I think. A bit like the name Scarlett, I would go with 2 t’s, and I know some use just one. However it’s definitely a name you have to end up always spelling out . My son has a name you can officially spell 3 ways and will always have to spell it.

Hagster · 24/05/2020 10:23

@Ineedamewusername yes I think I like it that way more too, but it's not a big preference, and as someone who's had name confusion my whole life I don't want to do that to my kid so if it's a more popular/common spelling with one T I'm happy with that!
