Thoughts on Frances nn Francie for DD please? I'd probably team with a slightly frillier middle name as we have a hard sounding surname.

Looking for a timeless underused name for DD that is feminine and strong, no longer than three syllables at an absolute maximum please.

This is the only name I have in mind at the moment, reeeeeally struggling for anything else. I feel it's a classic that hasn't revived yet. Help please MN?

Does your other half like it?

I think it fits your criteria well. She may get nicknamed Frankie which is more on trend if that bothers you.

I think Louisa has a similar feel.

He does yes :) he would like to call her Francie but I rather Frances as the 'proper name'

I had a lovely relative called Frances, nicknamed Frankie or Fran. I agree its due a revival, its beautiful.

IVflytrap · 20/05/2020 12:31

I really like it, classic and works well on both a child and an adult. She may get Fran and Frannie as well as Francie, so if you're OK with that possibility, go for it.

Like it but prefer Frankie as a nick name compared to Francie. (FRan is good too and I even like Fanny.) Ihad it on my short list.

Windyatthebeach · 20/05/2020 12:32

Frances Jayne..

fallfallfall · 20/05/2020 12:34

I know how to pronounce this in French (just like the country), how do you pronounce it in English? Surely you want France iss? Therefore Francis?

Twooter · 20/05/2020 12:35

Not keen, sorry. Feels like a really frumpy middle aged name to me

SnowdropFox · 20/05/2020 12:35

Not keen on Frances myself but i do like the nns. Weirdly I like the masculine form with the i instead of e.

Twooter · 20/05/2020 12:36

Like frankie though

OllyBJolly · 20/05/2020 12:37

Beautiful

RuthW · 20/05/2020 12:38

Lovely

daisypond · 20/05/2020 12:39

I really like it. It’s a great name.

WisestIsShe · 20/05/2020 12:40

Frances is lovely. It will be pronounced differently depending on whether you live in the north or the South though, France iss up North and frahhhnces down south.

mrblueskypleasetelluswhy · 20/05/2020 12:42

Yes definitely, it would be France-iss in our area for the PP that asked

Falfallfall, Francis is masculine, Frances is female, pronounced france-ess

inwood · 20/05/2020 12:44

It's lovely but will become Fran.

LotusClover · 20/05/2020 12:48

I love it. Some other suggestions:

Sylvie
Rosa
Lauren
Faith
Claire
Annie
Jasmine
Violet
Chloe
Kate
Adele
Eve
Anna
Hazel
Carla
Holly

CountFosco · 20/05/2020 12:51

Love it. More popular but similar vibe is Eleanor. I also love Caroline which is also due a revival.

Toddlerteaplease · 20/05/2020 12:53

My sisters middle name. I love it. My parents couldn't decide between Ruth Frances or Frances Ruth. They opted for the former.

mrblueskypleasetelluswhy · 20/05/2020 13:03

@lotusclover I always read your suggestions on other posts and love your input. You've even got my name in there.

I like Eve, Sylvie and Anna (but can't used sadly) from your list. More always welcomed, you do have great taste. Only ones I am not keen on are Carly (feels quite American/made up to me), Carla and Holly, similar reasons but mostly from school association.

Frances is not pronounced like France in French. France is pronounced like France.

123Dancewithme · 20/05/2020 20:59

Lovely name!

Bertucci · 20/05/2020 21:01

Beautiful name.

ZebraKid71 · 20/05/2020 21:26

Love it, but I don't like Francie at all.
