Thoughts on Frances nn Francie for DD please? I'd probably team with a slightly frillier middle name as we have a hard sounding surname.

Looking for a timeless underused name for DD that is feminine and strong, no longer than three syllables at an absolute maximum please.

This is the only name I have in mind at the moment, reeeeeally struggling for anything else. I feel it's a classic that hasn't revived yet. Help please MN?

It's ok as long as you realised it'll end up shortened to Fran or Franny.

I like Frances but I always wonder to what extent you can really control a nickname. The Frances I know goes by Franny which isn’t to everyone’s taste

You could go for 'virtue' names, which are unfussy and strong in their way, like:

Prudence (Prue)
Constance (Con / Connie)
Verity
Faith

Or, if you like the 'c as s' sound in Frances, how about Beatrice, Clarice, Celia or Cecily.

I think one of the strong things about Frances is its meaning, 'free (man) person' so connotation of freedom. You could look for similarly powerful meanings.

How about Clare (clear, bright)? That's well known but not currently popular, and while due for a revival in a decade or two, once the 70s/80s Clares are granies and great-grannies, not yet, so there won't be lots of them.

It's a beautiful name!
