Girls name thoughts please?

Hi all,

Am expecting my fifth (and final!) in four weeks and as we already have two boys and two girls, and found out sex with them all we have kept this one a surprise. We had a lovely shortlist for girls names for most of the pregnancy and nothing for a boy. Recently we’ve had a complete about turn and settled on a boys name that we both love but the girls choices have gone up in the air!

We have a short surname, just one syllable and our children’s names are Alexander, Daniel, Amelie & Robyn.

My favourite name for a girl all through the pregnancy has been Clara. OH doesn’t actively dislike it but he says it doesn’t make him think ‘Yeah that’s the one!’ and doesn’t want to use it if little one is a girl.

His favourite girls name is Zoey, which I feel the same way about as he does with Clara so we’re at a bit of an impasse.

We’re looking now at the next names on our list but they’ve dwindled away over time too.

Both names are still in the running as we’ve decided not to rule anything out until we meet baby, but we can’t seem to agree on anything else either.
The only other name we’ve considered that we both seem to like is Anna-Rose.

What, if any would you choose between Clara, Zoey or Anna-Rose, or do you have any other suggestions based on that very tiny list of the kind of names we like? Thank you for any help, truly! X

Anna-Rose is my favourite but they’re all lovely

IggyAce · 16/05/2020 21:59

I like Clara, hate hyphenated names so don’t like Anna-Rose but like Anna on it’s own.
I suggest:
Rebecca
Pearl
Imogen
Mary
Sara

Queenoftheashes · 16/05/2020 22:00

Zara?

daisydalrymple · 16/05/2020 22:02

Chloe?? Seems a combination of Clara and Zoe

4Stories · 16/05/2020 22:02

I love Clara. I also like Anna but with Rose as a middle name rather than a hyphenated first name. I’m not a fan of Zoey though I don’t dislike it. Other ideas:

Lara
Anya
Leah
Freya
Francesca
Flora
Thalia/Talia
Felicity
Thea

Well, right off the bat I'm tempted to suggest Clary or Zara Grin

Anna-Rose I dunno, it's long and a but clunky imo. Somehow I prefer Roseanne or Rosanna or Roshana.

Have you considered names similar to each of your favorites ?

Clara : Ciara, Clarissa, Cara, Carina, Callie...

Zoey : Zina, Zora, Chloe...

Whatsyourflava · 16/05/2020 22:06

Clara is lovely
Definitely not a hyphenated name though. No way

Whatsyourflava · 16/05/2020 22:09

Completely agree with previous poster, a name like Roseanne or Rosanna is so much nicer and classier than Anna-Rose. Sorry but hyphenated names very downmarket. So sorry to say that

bridgetreilly · 16/05/2020 22:10

I would pick Clara of your options

Other possibilities:
Freya
Linnet
Juliet
Briony

Whatsyourflava · 16/05/2020 22:10

How about Cleo or Cora or Clemmie? Instead of Clara (though I prefer Clara)
Pearl?
Maggie?
Edie/Edith?
Jemima?

missmouse101 · 16/05/2020 22:14

Heidi? Not keen on any of yours I'm afraid. Blush

HeadOfHomeschool · 16/05/2020 22:16

Clara is nicest.

Other ideas:

Chloe
Eloise
Lara
Violet
Alana
Elodie
Cyra
Sorcha
Verity
Jessica

stophuggingme · 16/05/2020 22:16

I like Zoe with your other children’s names
Not the other two

I love Clary though

Flitterwings · 16/05/2020 22:18

Thanks everyone. Clara seems right in my heart. I may have to try to coax him around 😳

Clara is lovely, talk him round. Not a fan of Zoey.

daisypond · 16/05/2020 22:33

Zoe, spelled that way, is favourite
I like Anna-Rose. It’s one of those classic hyphenated names that work well.
Clara is fine but a little dull.

alittlerespectgoesalongway · 16/05/2020 22:52

From those I'd go for Zoe but without the added y. I can see you like very traditional names so as someone else suggested what about Clarissa as an additional option? Or Cora?

AdaColeman · 16/05/2020 23:02

Clara is lovely, and I would choose that.
If you decide on Zoë, I think it’s nicer with the more classic spelling, Zoey looks wrong to me.

Angel2702 · 16/05/2020 23:06

I love Clara, not keen on Zoe but maybe because I knew lots growing up.

LotusClover · 16/05/2020 23:49

Absolutely LOVE Clara! Zoey is nice too but I prefer it spelt Zoe.

Don't like hyphenated names so I'm not keen on Anna-Rose. Rosanna is gorgeous though, one of my favourite names. Anna and Rose are lovely on their own too. Or you could have first name Anna, middle name Rose. Hyphenating destroys the individual beauty of these names in my opinion so I wouldn't do it.

mathanxiety · 17/05/2020 00:00

Split the difference - Chloe.

I think it would be nice with your other names ( which are lovely, imo).

mathanxiety · 17/05/2020 00:09

I also love Anna-Rose. I'm not British and don't really understand the recoil from hyphenated names

I have a relative named Annarose ( one word) which is a nice unhyphenated version.

Other ideas:
Leonie
Rosina
Rosemary
Rosanna
Cleo
Laurel
Leila
Thea

Krazynights34 · 17/05/2020 00:27

Clara is one of my favourite names and was on my list for my DD who ended up being a Lydia.
Other suggestions...
Lisette
Marianne
Martha
Clarissa
Celeste
Julia
Gia
Victoria
Vivienne
Joy
Petra
Penny
Honor
Jennifer
Caroline
Francine

MichelleUK1 · 17/05/2020 01:58

I LOVE Clara, it's so pretty and unique without being weird. Anna-Rose is also very pretty. I'm not a fan of Zoey, sorry.
I love Emma, Anna, Charlotte, Mila, Rosie, Freya and Alyssa :) Good luck

mathanxiety · 17/05/2020 05:21

Carys
Cecily
