Hanna or Lea

Which name do you like more? (They're equivalents of Hannah and Leah, different spelling due to my origin). I'm lost cause I really like Lea right now but for years I had thought I'd call my daughter Hanna so it feels like I'm betraying the name haha.

I prefer Hanna.

FamilyOfAliens · 14/05/2020 21:36

If you live in the UK and you choose the name Lea, many people will pronounce it the same as Lee.

Ontheblackhill · 14/05/2020 21:37

I like the letter H at the end of both names

CuppaZa · 14/05/2020 21:38

Hanna. Although still prefer H at the end

NC4Now · 14/05/2020 21:38

I like them both but I prefer them with H on the end. What’s the thinking behind the unusual spelling? They are both beautiful names as they are.

SallyWD · 14/05/2020 21:40

I prefer Lea.

Annaeve · 14/05/2020 21:44

The different spelling is European which I am, surprisingly my husband who's English prefers it too. We may end up adding the "h" after all, but need to choose the name first :)

Ah good point re Lea being mispronounced :/

Hannah.....with an h at the end to finish it off. 😁

arianwe · 14/05/2020 21:51

I prefer Lea. I would know how to pronounce it properly x

daisypond · 14/05/2020 22:10

I like Lea more. I’d know how to pronounce it, but I think there may be issues with it. Hanna is nice. I’m not so keen on Hannah but it seems different without the H. I would know it’s a European spelling.

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 14/05/2020 22:13

Hanna or Hanni is nice too

CrazylazyJane · 14/05/2020 22:15

I like Lea but have a family member with it as their middle name and hers is pronounced 'Lee', so I can see how your daughter could spend her life correcting people.

Annaeve · 14/05/2020 22:20

It wasnt really meant to be a discussion on whether to add an "h" or not :) Its not that uncommon to acknowledge your roots in your child's name. But feel free to offer your view on Hannah vs Leah instead if you like!

Hanna
Really lovely name :)

Chocolatecake12 · 14/05/2020 22:32

Hanna
Lea will get mispronounced a lot.

Spied · 14/05/2020 22:35

Lea(h)
I personally think of Hannah as dated.

Homebirdafterall · 14/05/2020 22:42

I prefer Leah if you spell it with an h at the end. My sister named her daughter Lea but within a week they added the h because all of us pronounced it "lee" without the h there!

helpmum2003 · 14/05/2020 22:44

Hanna

Blursula · 14/05/2020 22:47

Lea is beautiful. I would know how to pronounce it and would think most people would. Hanna I find a bit dated, sorry

GirlCalledJames · 14/05/2020 22:49

The xenophobia is so depressing. People don’t need to anglicise themselves to be acceptable.

WinWinnieTheWay · 14/05/2020 22:49

Hannah and Leah are both gorgeous. If you live in the UK then please include the H.

bridgetreilly · 14/05/2020 23:13

Hanna is lovely. I'd stick with that.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/05/2020 23:14

Hanna. I do like Leah. However it will cause confusion with the Lea spelling.

snidgetowl · 14/05/2020 23:33

Hanna is beautiful. For some strange reason I'm not keen on it with the h at the end, but love it without!
