Penny or Indie?

Really love these names. I'm due in forever with our 3rd child (girl) and would love to hear opinions on both names!

We could still change our minds but right now these two are on the top of our list! Thanks If you have similar names on your girl's list please do mention them.

These are not nicknames as I live in Scandinavia and people here don't really do nicknames.
So Penny and Indie as they are.
(I know India is a "proper" name, but I've never been there and I don't want to name my child after a place I don't know if I like).

I love Penny. Not so keen on Indie.

BabyDust13 · 14/05/2020 19:36

I think they are equally lovely I'd probably sway towards Indie but that's just because it's slightly more my taste

Blursula · 14/05/2020 20:21

Indie gets my vote. Really dislike Penny but it seems really popular on here

Lifeaback · 14/05/2020 20:22

I prefer penny- indie to me means independent business/alternative teenager

Wheresthebiffer2 · 14/05/2020 20:25

At the moment in Scotland, there are a few folk who are trying to get up a campaign for a second referendum on Independence. Their slogan is Indy-Ref 2. So that is what I think of when I hear the word Indie/Indy. But if is unlikely to affect you, as you say you are not in the UK.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 14/05/2020 20:27

I like Penny. I don't know any, and I only know one lady whose name is Penelope, and she is 60+. The only other Penny is the one in the Big Bang Theory on TV (a lovely funny character, nothing to worry about there).

Aclh13 · 14/05/2020 20:28

I like them both but penny I prefer more but if it was India I would prefer that

123Dancewithme · 14/05/2020 22:06

I prefer Penny.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 14/05/2020 23:26

Love Indie. Hadn't heard it before my DC started doing PE with Joe

I ♥️ Indie

Staffori · 15/05/2020 02:12

I'd go for Penny. Indie makes me think of my son's awful taste in music.

jollybobs89 · 15/05/2020 02:20

Indie for me my daughters name Wink

Indie Marie she's called xx

DramaAlpaca · 15/05/2020 02:47

Of the two, Indie.

If it was Penny short for Penelope I'd choose that.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 15/05/2020 02:58

I love penny. Indie is a dogs name for me

ShyTown · 15/05/2020 03:22

I prefer Penny. Indy makes me think of nascar.

Ineedabreak19 · 15/05/2020 07:36

I would consider to be short for India or independent. I know you don't want to name your baby after a country you don't know if you'd like. Indie is too close to India so I would think it was short for India.

userabcname · 15/05/2020 07:37

I like both but prefer Penny.

LotusClover · 15/05/2020 07:59

Both are quite cutesy. Indie reminds me of indie music - I don't hear it as a name. (Before people attack me, yes, I'm aware it is a name, I just don't think of it as one when I hear it)

Penny seems to be coming back into fashion but I'm not sure if I like it.

I'd probably go for Indie simply because it looks nicer written down.

Nachonacho · 15/05/2020 08:02

Indie is my favourite of the two but it's so popular now so I would chose Penny instead Smile

cptartapp · 15/05/2020 08:06

Quite a few Indies/Indys now, both male and female.
Not keen on either. Penny at a push.

Whatsyourflava · 15/05/2020 08:06

Love both! Its all relative I know but I wouldn't say indie is "so popular" myself. It's outside the top 230 names and even if you add all the "India" and "Indie"s together the total names still wouldn't reach the top 100 chart @Nachonacho

Penelope is number 48 in the chart so if a high proportion of them are known as Penny you'll probably find that's the more commonly used name. But who knows. Both are excellent choices

Whatsyourflava · 15/05/2020 08:09

@cptartapp the name "Indy" (spelt that way) is outside the top 1,000 names!!! Only 20 babies were given this name
Indie is outside the top 200 for girls and outside the top 3,000 (!!!) for boys. 5 boys were given the name Indie in a year!

MondeoFan · 15/05/2020 08:21

Indie is the one. 👍🏻

sibbys · 15/05/2020 08:51

Wow, I'm surprised! Such good feedback - thanks!!
