Hi,

I’m 29 weeks pregnant today. DH and I don’t seem to agree on any names. We need help with both boys and girls names.

Boys

The only boys name we actually both love is unfortunately already taken by our dog. It’s Freddie (we would use Frederick on the bc). DH thinks we can still use it and I’m not 100% convinced he’s joking, but either way we won’t be having a Freddie 2.

Anything similar we might love as much?

We also like Henry, DH is sold on this whereas I’m not 100% I’d like to use it as a middle name (has a family connection on both sides) but don’t think I want it as a first name.

For a long time we were agreed on Elis, but both seem to have gone off it now.

He likes Harvey, I don’t.

I like Owen, Theo, Jude, Spencer, Gabriel, Max - all vetoed by DH.

Girls

Middle name will be June - non negotiable.

DH’s suggestions are:
Elizabeth - I like but don’t love it.
Dorothy (his gms name) - a no from me

I like, DH has either vetoed or been very lukewarm about:

Iris (my fave, firm no from him)
Francesca
Evangeline
Erin
Matilda
Imogen
Camilla
Beatrice
Lara
Seren (again we both liked this at one point but have gone off it a little as we’re not Welsh enough really!)

I feel like we’ve been through every name we can both think of and not found anything we both love - other than the dog’s name of course. Fresh suggestions gratefully received!

For your girls names what about:
Tess/Tessa
Helena
Violet

I have an Ellis, therefore I love it and think it’s a gorgeous choice!

And I also love the names Iris and Seren anyway, so I love this from your list.

Similar “feel” to Freddie:

Frankie
Vinnie
Ronnie
Eddie
Teddy
Ernie

Girls names you may be interested in:

Eve
Everly
Cerys/Carys

Thank you for the suggestions everyone- going to go through them with DH when he’s finished work.

Mumma I still like Ellis/ Elis - it’s just someone we know has just had an Ellis. We’re not super close to them but close enough that we’d just feel odd about using the same name straight after them. If there were any babies due to be born in between it might be different! It’s not out of the running totally I do think it is a lovely name.

@aliasgrape

Ahh I see what you mean. It’s a shame when that happens.

Good luck choosing a name, you have some good choices there!

The4ks · 14/05/2020 16:04

Great taste!
Ellis was my favourite boys name and Iris and Erin for girls.
Frankie for a boy? Or Edward? Freddie and Eddie!

Thank you everyone, DH is still being lukewarm about EVERYTHING and driving me mad, I can see us being one of those couples who doesn’t decide on a name until the very last possible day to register the birth.

Ellis is a really really gorgeous name and I wouldn't think it at all odd to use it too. It's not like it's a totally obscure name that only a few babies a year have. It's a mainstream name now.
I think you might kick yourself if you don't use it

Whatsyourflava · 15/05/2020 10:15

Freddie is lovely.

How about similar-ish names Vincent/ Vinnie or Laurence/ Laurie or

Elliott ?

LiviLoggs · 23/05/2020 00:39

Sorry, I'm not a great help with boys names, very indecisive myself!

For girls though:

I love Seren, I know a Seren with absolutely no welsh connections and I think it sounds beautiful, as does Iris, and Evangeline.
Erin and Matilda are quite common and may soon be overused but lovely names. Also love the middle name June, it flows well with most names and is absolutely gorgeous.
