Boys name: Fox

InTheHouseBored · 09/05/2020 23:50

Found out I'm having another boy this week (my second). We really struggled tryna find a boys names even before we found out he was a boy.

I love Fox but can't bring myself to actually name my son that. Plus his last name will begin with F as well so really won't work, or will it? To me the alliteration makes him sound like a marvel superhero. Which I don't want.

Other options are:
Finley
Jaxxon
Creed
Emilio
River
Cullen
Rory
Louie
Sonny
Nico

We can't agree on any or find one that we like enough.

Any suggestions/opinions please??
TIA

I love Fox. Go for it x

babynamelover · 09/05/2020 23:55

I like Fox too 😊. I knew Brother's Zarnder & Fox.
I like Emilio and Rory from your list too.

Puppybum · 09/05/2020 23:59

Fox is ok, the rest of your list isn't

JKScot4 · 10/05/2020 00:01

What is your other son called?
Creed? dear god 🙄

angryhulk · 10/05/2020 00:04

Fox is awesome. Others are crap. Think sounding like a marvel character is actually brilliant 👍🏽

whatausername · 10/05/2020 00:05

I know Fox is common in some areas but I still think it sounds daft and it'll be the Chantelle of the 2020s.

I particularly like:

Finley (alliteration is fine)
Rory
Louie (I'd spell it the regular way - Louis, the name was originally French so the -S has never been pronounced and still isn't)
Sonny
Nico

I dislike Cullen because of the soup cullen skink. I mean the soup is good but I wouldn't call my kid Mulligatawny!

whatausername · 10/05/2020 00:08

Creed tends to mean your faith or a system of beliefs. Idk the exact British legal term but under anti-discrimination laws it's a protected characteristic. Would be like calling your kid Race or Sexuality.

InTheHouseBored · 10/05/2020 00:13

@whatausername didn't even think of that @whatausername didn't even think of that, thanks for pointing it out. Defo off the list.

The list is really random anyway so all will probably get cut. We're running out of lists of names on google to look at at this point so anything is getting put into the list just in case it a month we like it.

Fox - please no. Unless you're prepared to use another vermin name for the middle. Like rat, maybe?
Finley - ok
Jaxxon - ho ho ho
Creed - no
Emilio - ok
River - bit try-hard
Cullen - what?
Rory - nice
Louie - Louis
Sonny - nice
Nico - nice

whatausername · 10/05/2020 00:37

@InTheHouseBored I get it! I've had names listed and then suddenly realised a while later that it has some definition that makes it unusable.

How long until your DS says hello? It might be a case of waiting to see his face & what he suits?

InTheHouseBored · 10/05/2020 00:47

@whatausername he's due in September so we have a long time to think about it.
The plan was to wait and see what he matches when he's born but we want at least three names in mind. Although my partner is still stuck on our original name of Arlo, which I didn't like anymore after an hour, so it's harder for him to like anything else 🙄

OP posts:
Ellmau · 10/05/2020 01:08

I really wouldn't pick Fox. It would sound like you were swearing at him all the time.

What about Wulf?

Rory's my favourite of your original list. And Arlo is nice too, sorry you've gone off it.

daisypond · 10/05/2020 04:33

Finley - ok
Jaxxon - no way.
Creed - no way.
Emilio - ok
River - not really
Cullen - no
Rory - yes
Louie - it’s spelled Louis.
Sonny - no way
Nico - no
Arlo- naff
Fox - middle name only

Blackbear19 · 10/05/2020 05:36

I'm a no to Fox, just sounds daft.

Finley - yes
Jaxxon - yes but I really don't like the spelling. Does English ever have a double X? As in qq, vv and ww, are never used. I'd go with Jaxson, Jackson or you could consider Jason.
Creed - No, as previously mentioned like race.
Emilio - No reminds me of a muppet Elmo, and re-reading has just brought to mind a Tweenie.
River - Maybe, Not sure about this.
Cullen - No reminds me of cull as in reduce population of wild animal.
Rory - Yes
Louie - Yes
Sonny - Its ok for a boy but I stuggle to see a older man with it.
Nico - It ok but wouldn't be my choice.
Arlo - it's just ok, bit like Nico.

My favourites are Finley, Rory and Louie. Finley might sound a bit cartoonish depending on the second name.

Malysh · 10/05/2020 05:52

I don't really get this "wait till you see him" thing. He's gonna look like a baby, what do you expect ? That he'll have his name tattooed on his forehead ? Waiting just amps the pressure a thousand percent because once he's born you only have so much time to register him (in my country you only have 3 days...) and you feel stupid calling him "baby".

Anyway, Fox makes me think of Mulder... Or the news channel.

Finley - yes but I thought you didn't like the alliteration ?

Jaxxon - meh. Especially spell this way.

Creed - only if you're an Assassin's Creed fan...

Emilio - ok but sounds very italian

River - hmmm okay, don't hate it

Cullen - makes me think of the dragon age character, which is fine. But then I remember those sparkly vampires and I'm like "uuurgh".

Rory - personally find the double R hard to pronounce (but english isn't my first language)

Louie - as pp said, Louis is fine. Really like it actually.

Sonny - don't like, feels like calling a girl "daughter"...

Nico - yes if Nicolas on birth certificate

PrimeroseHillAnnie · 10/05/2020 05:57

The truth is out there Smile

Blackbear19 · 10/05/2020 06:36

I don't really get this "wait till you see him" thing

Actually I do get that. I was dithering between two names for my eldest and after a couple of days, his name grew on me and he just didn't look like a David.
My second I can't remember what other names we had but he was named within minutes.
A friend was also between two names but neither seemed to stand out . Then someone said neither of them could be right if they weren't standing out so she had a rethink and went for something different.

BelfastNonBlonde · 10/05/2020 06:46

I’m due this month. Pretty sure am going to use Fox as a middle name I’d can get husband on board. He seemed a bit perplexed when I told him but he’s not into middle names (don’t have done - poor sod) so seemed to become ok with it..)

Anyways I think it’s dead cute. Use it if you love it.

BelfastNonBlonde · 10/05/2020 06:49

Out of your other names I only like Finley, Rory, Cullen, Louie and Sonny - but I’m
Not overly adventurousy

Ladycoo1 · 10/05/2020 06:58

Ridiculous name. Fox!

LesLavandes · 10/05/2020 07:04

Nooooo

AragornsManlyStubble · 10/05/2020 07:06

My daughter is at school with a Fox, I like it!

Definite vote here for Cullen, it was on my list for a boy 8 years ago for said daughter.

Ineedaduvetday · 10/05/2020 07:12

Mulder

Whatsyourflava · 10/05/2020 07:29

@Blackbear19 @Malysh
I'm amazed "waiting til you see the baby" actually works for anyone. I did this twice in the hope the name would become apparent and ....nope. Baby just looked like a baby and I wished I'd just made a decision in advance.

I like the name Fox. Like your list apart from Creed, Emilio and Rory (seems a bit dull compared to your other choices)

Are any of these names any good, i think we have similar-ish taste:

Marley
Christopher nn Kit
Barnaby
Nathan/Nathaniel - Nate
Sidney
Laurence nn Laurie
Vincent nn Vinnie
Curtis
Eli
Ellis
Miles / Milo
Seth
Cole
Otis
Eric
Casper
Rudy/Rudi
Dexter
Blake
Angus
Dominic
Idris
Percy
Chester
Caleb
Austin
Griff
Tristan
Bodhi
Otto

If you love foxes, how about Finnegan?
