Not necessarily - can always request to be called Isobel .
I’ve heard it shortened to Iz , Belle too .

rottiemum88 · 08/05/2020 14:52

I know one Isabelle who's known as Belle

VideographybyLouBloom · 08/05/2020 14:53

It’s more commonly shortened to Belle or Bella where I am.

OneAndOnlyOneTime · 08/05/2020 14:56

We have a Bella. Smile

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 08/05/2020 14:58

I know a Bella, and several spelt Issi/ Issy which is less harsh looking than Izzy.

LoKiMummy · 08/05/2020 14:59

I only know izzy’s

Lilysharp · 08/05/2020 15:10

I suppose it gives her options for the future of what she likes to be called. I kind of regret this with my first. I quite like Issy, i think you're right its a bit less harsh

I have a neice called Isabelle. Family always use the full version but as she's got older she and her friends have started to use Izzy but it's choice. Beware though if you go for Isabelle that nobody will ever use the correct spelling, there are so many variations of the name and you will be forever correcting them.

Edenember · 08/05/2020 15:56

@Lilysharp I know more often of belles and Bella’s rather than Izzy, I even know of one isobel who goes by Ella .

MrsJoshNavidi · 08/05/2020 16:19

Mine is Izo to her mates. I quite like that

HelloDulling · 08/05/2020 16:22

When my DD went to school (11 years ago), 6 out of the 35 girls were called Isabella or Isabella. Two were Issy, one Ella, a Bella, a Belle and an Isabelle.

june2007 · 08/05/2020 16:26

Normally Izzy in my experience.

Teacup34 · 08/05/2020 16:27

My dd 2 is an Isabella. When I was pregnant I said we will call her Bella for short as I loved the name Bella but she's an Izzy as Bella never suited her personality. I wasn't keen on Izzy but it's grown in me!

Runnerduck34 · 08/05/2020 16:49

I have an Isobel, she is still Isobel to us and was only when she was in her teens friends started to shorten it to izzy. Previous posters are right about spelling though , I never realised when we named her how often I'd have to correct the spelling of her name, most spell it Isabel or Isabelle but rarely Isobel unless they already know the spelling

Roseburn · 08/05/2020 16:54

Isa - like in Still Game.

wonderpants · 08/05/2020 16:54

I know a teenage Iso. Suits her.

LotusClover · 08/05/2020 17:37

All the Isabella's, Isobel's, etc that I've ever known have been shortened to Izzy. I think it's a nice nickname but I do prefer Issy.

CupCupGoose · 08/05/2020 17:41

Both of the isabelles I know don't use a shortened version.

CupCupGoose · 08/05/2020 17:41

Isobel! I don't know why my phone changed it to that!

SunbathingDragon · 08/05/2020 17:43

I know four. Two are called Isobel, one Belle and the other one is Izzy. It’s the older two that don’t abbreviate.

amber763 · 08/05/2020 17:44

I call my friend Isabelle, Bella

amber763 · 08/05/2020 17:45

@Roseburn haha love still game... Off to see if it's on Netflix. (sorry not the point)

Blackcountryexile · 08/05/2020 21:46

@Runnerduck34 I could have written your post! That's exactly my experience with my Isobel. Still love her name 30 years on.

123Dancewithme · 08/05/2020 21:59

The Isabelle in my family doesn’t shorten it

midnightstar66 · 08/05/2020 22:00

I have an isabella who was Bella til she decided at 5 she wanted to be izzie so that's what she is mostly. My friend has an Isobel though who has never bee shortened. I think mostly people go as how they are introduced and Isobel possibly less prone to shortening
