I'm 27 weeks and we don't know what we're having.

Willow has been the front runner for a little while but I'm not 100% sure about it. We're also considering Amelie which I think I like a bit more.

What do you think? Willow or Amelie? And any other suggestions?

I prefer Willow but I always lean towards nature names. Not fussed about the meaning of Amelie either.

LotusClover · 08/05/2020 11:05

Amelie will constantly get misread as Amelia and misheard as Emily. Which is a shame because it's a lovely name.

Willow is not my taste but it's becoming fairly popular and is a lot nicer than some of the names in the top 100.

I love Willow.
I love Amelia, Emily and Emilia but I just can't warm to Amelie for some reason.

Other names you might like.

Penelope
Arabella.

I prefer Willow

allthesharks · 08/05/2020 11:34

I've already got a daughter whose name ends "ia" which is why I've ruled out Amelia as it just sounds too similar.

You are right that Amelie could be misheard as Emily, I hadn't considered that.

I've already got two daughters so I feel like I've exhausted my girl options. We also need something that goes with their names.

Our front runners for boys names are Zachary and Sebastian, in case that gives any further indication of our tastes.

Do you think Willow would get shortened to Will?

I love Willow! Much prefer it to Amelie.

Whatsyourflava · 08/05/2020 11:39

@allthesharks no I don't think Willow would be shortened to Will whatsoever but I guess it's a possibility

Willow is a lovely name. I also know a little "Willa" and love that name too.

Zachary and Sebastian are brilliant choices

I’m not wildly keen on Willow, but it’s lots better than Amelie.

xeniiia · 08/05/2020 13:43

I don’t think willow would get shortened. I know 2 and I’ve never heard someone shorten it

Mucklowe · 08/05/2020 14:17

Willow is gorgeous.

Amelie is so try-hard. There was a period of time, around 10 years ago, when people used this name to make themselves look sophisticated for watching a super-popular French film.

mamablondie2 · 08/05/2020 15:30

I have a Willow so am biased, to me Amelie is a bit fussy.

Willow is beautiful imo. No regrets!

KindnessCrusader · 08/05/2020 15:35

Much prefer Willow.

EuphieKat · 09/05/2020 01:30

Amelie is lovely!

Swingingontheswing · 09/05/2020 01:38

I think Amelie would be mispronounced. I'd stick to an 'English language' spelling e.g. Amelia or Emilia. (Amelia is nicer in my opinion).

I would hate to be named Willow.

babynamelover · 09/05/2020 09:05

I prefer Amelie to Willow but I like Willa more 😊.
