How would you pronounce each one and which spelling do you prefer? Also what do you think of the name? Xx

What’s wrong with Amera?

Wheresthebiffer2 · 07/05/2020 01:48

Pretty name. I'd pronounce them exactly the same. Ah-mee-ruh with the stress on the middle MEE.
I prefer the spelling Amira, because the other one looks wrong.

Millie272020 · 07/05/2020 01:48

I just don’t think that’s a common spelling for Amira/ Ameera and looks a bit incomplete

Thanks! :) I am also more inclined towards Amira as it looks neat but worried about pronunciation as I want the A-Mee-Ra pronunciation

I would probably use Amira but that is because I am more familiar with the boys version being spelled Amir, I don't think there is a right spelling but to be Amira looks nicer.

I would probably pronounce them both "uh-meer-rah" but I have only seen the name in print, never aloud. I don't think I'm conveying it well it text, middle syllable kind of half way between "me" and "mayor."

worstwitch18 · 07/05/2020 01:52

Oops just saw your update about pronunciation!

RUSU92 · 07/05/2020 01:53

I like it. I’d pronounce them both the same way. Prefer the spelling Amira, which just looks like it transcends many cultures.

Also my phone clearly thinks Amira is correct as when I type Ameera it autocorrected to Aneesa, (which is also pretty!)

As for the PP “what’s wrong with Amera?” I’d pronounce that like mare rather than meer.

saggybaps · 07/05/2020 01:56

Amira... Ah-mee-rah beautiful name x

RUSU92 · 07/05/2020 02:02

I think if it was Mira or Meera then I can see that the first one might be pronounced My- Ra, but I think the A at the start of Amira would definitely make it sound like A-meer-a

Millie272020 · 07/05/2020 02:31

Thank you so much for your opinions so far! I’m glad that Amira is mostly pronounced the way I was hoping for it to be pronounced, and that the name has a positive response

I'd pronounce them both the same and I prefer the spelling Amira. It's a very pretty name.

Florrieboo · 07/05/2020 03:36

Very pretty name but the one I know has a lisp or speech impediment of some sort and introduces herself as A-mee-wa. That could have happened with any name she was given though.

NameChange84 · 07/05/2020 03:47

Amira.

Love it, beautiful name. If you were still tempted to go with the double ee I’d go with Ameerah (like Jamila/Jameelah) BUT I much prefer Amira.

Are you worried people might think it’s “eye-rah”?

I wouldn’t worry...Mila, Aria etc are quite common names at the moment and have the EE sound.

Amera as suggested above by a pp seems more like Am-air-a to me!

MysteryFrog · 07/05/2020 04:21

Amira Looks nicer

Millie272020 · 07/05/2020 08:43

Thank you! I will go for the Amira spelling, I agree it looks much nicer :)

I think Amira looks prettier but I would definitely pronounce them the same :)
