We're considering either Ronin or Perses as names for a boy. Crazy idea or not?

crazy, poor child

PurpleDaisies · 06/05/2020 09:32

Awful.

Jmommy · 06/05/2020 09:33

I kinda like Ronin. Perses not so much.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 06/05/2020 09:37

Any name you choose try and to announce them as a newscaster would if they were Prime Minster or CEO of a large respected company.

If the name sounds silly then don't give your child that name.

You need the name to be neutral enough so people

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 06/05/2020 09:39

don't laugh when they see the name on a CV when your child is an adult trying to get a job.

Bert2e · 06/05/2020 09:40

Mad I'm afraid

SleepingStandingUp · 06/05/2020 09:42

Robin is fine, Persis purses persil not so much. I get it tho, we wanted Thaddeus and Balthazar

AdaColeman · 06/05/2020 09:46

How about Percy instead of Perses?

FairfaxAikman · 06/05/2020 09:47

What about Ronan?

DrinkingInTheNightGarden · 06/05/2020 09:49

Eeek please don't! Poor kid!

exexpat · 06/05/2020 09:50

Ronin? Really? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rōnin

And by Perses are you thinking of the Greek god of destruction?

Yes, you are mad.

Horehound · 06/05/2020 09:51

Ronin is ok although I prefer Ronan. The other...no don't do it!

flowerPower118 · 06/05/2020 09:52

No chance. Don't do it. Horrible

Altuve · 06/05/2020 09:52

Not a fan of Persis, but not because it’s a weird name, I just think it’s not the nicest sounding name.

Ronin I have no problem with at all - although I guess there would be plenty of misspellings of Ronan. I have a name with numerous spelling variations and mine is one of the least common - it’s a pain at times, but it’s no biggie.

As for the PP above who liked Thaddeus - I love that name and would have used it if a) we didn’t have other boys names we liked more b) we had more boys and less girls in our family!

Pika09 · 06/05/2020 10:29

For some reason we are finding boys names really difficult to choose, hence grasping at straws lol

I think Ronan is a lot better than Ronin. I suspect that if you pick Ronin people will think you meant Ronan but are just bad at spelling. Ronan is a nice name with good classical connotations.

Perses I really don’t like - it doesn’t look or sound nice imo. Would you consider Percy or even Perseus instead?

123Dancewithme · 06/05/2020 12:21

Ronan is better than Ronin

I know someone who has a Perseus nn Percy

OnABeachSomewhere · 06/05/2020 12:36

Ronan is fine but I wouldn't go for the others.

Xerxes
Peter
Atticus

SleepingStandingUp · 06/05/2020 12:37

And now, we're going live to Prime Minister Thaddeus Marston as he achieves world peace with the help of his brother Balthazar, CEO of Peace Inc.

Dammit, it sounds so cool. We def should have done it

tainot · 06/05/2020 12:37

I like them both 🤷🏻‍♀️

IsolaPribby · 06/05/2020 12:38

If you want unusual, how about X Æ A-12?

midsomermurderess · 06/05/2020 15:56

Makeup, Boris sounds frankly ridiculous, yet, here we are. Ronin is ok, Perses sounds like a misheard Perseus.

Edenember · 06/05/2020 16:20

I’m not keen but it’s really subjective. If you’re going to go unusual by it’s very nature you aren’t going to crowd please. How about Rohan?

SleepingStandingUp · 06/05/2020 17:04

Boris sounds frankly ridiculous, yet, here we are tbf to his parents, his first name is fine. British PM Alexander Johnson sounds perfectly sensible

midsomermurderess · 06/05/2020 19:11

I know what his first name is. But he is universally, apart from his family, called Boris.
