Hi there,

I'd be grateful for opinions on the name Thomas Alexander Egan (and the shortened version, Tom Egan) please.

Other names on our shortlist include Michael, Matthew and Arthur.

Thanks so much for your comments 🙂

Thomas Alexander Egan is a great name.
Your other choices are good too.

Felicityfi16 · 04/05/2020 23:26

Thomas Alexander Egan flows great! Your other options go well too but my personal favourite is Thomas x

KillingSteve · 04/05/2020 23:28

Lovely. Thomas is my favourite from your options

Beautiful strong name. Great choice.

Tom Egan - Tommy Gun?

TheRealMel2020 · 04/05/2020 23:43

Hi, thanks for the responses so far 🙂

@womanvsfood thanks, the similarity to 'Tommy Gun' isn't great! I'm not sure if this is a deal-breaker, but it does make me lean more towards the other options...

Matthew is my favourite but they are all nice names.

emilybrontescorsett · 05/05/2020 11:33

I like your choices I love Matthew too.

Really lovely name Op. Works at all ages, classic and timeless.

SoftBlocks · 05/05/2020 11:36

Nice name.

TheRealMel2020 · 05/05/2020 15:37

Thanks all 🙂

Thomas is my favourite name, but I am worried about teasing over the 'Tommy Gun' thing.....

The options of Michael or Matthew seem more safe, as Mike Egan and Matt Egan are both OK I think.

The suggestion of Arthur Egan came from a relative and we're also considering the names Jack or John.

Not that I'm indecisive or anything! 😕

Matthew Alexander sounds lovely.

Whatsyourflava · 05/05/2020 15:42

Thomas is a gorgeous name and I really think it's a bit of a stretch to get to Tommy Gun!

Ihaveamind · 05/05/2020 15:48

I like them all except Arthur.
I think that's just because I've never known anyone called Arthur so my only association is EastEnders and that's depressing.
Thomas/Tom is a lovely name.
I wouldn't worry about Tommy Gun, he is unlikely to be called by his full name in school to differentiate and it's not a phrase children in the next five to ten years will have on the tip of their tongue. I'm nearly 40 and wouldn't have thought about it!

Thomas is lovely. The Tommy Gun reference is a real stretch I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks everyone, this is so helpful 🙂

I thought ‘Tommy Gun’. Thomas Alexander is great but I would choose Michael or Matthew with Egan.

BabyDust13 · 05/05/2020 18:07

I think Arthur Thomas sounds lovely

userabcname · 05/05/2020 18:11

I much prefer Matthew!
