Francesca or Lydia

Had fully decided on Francesca at 20 weeks now nearly 30 weeks and I am going off it for reasons I can't put my finger on!

DH suggested out of the blue Lydia and I really like it too and now I am confused.

Middle name for both would be Wren.

Last name is one syllable and rhymes with Sneeze so not much goes with it anyway.

Also any suggested NN for Lydia would be great!

I like both Francesca and Lydia. I wouldn’t try to force a NN on Lydia. Best to avoid.

HairsprayBabe · 03/05/2020 11:24

No I thought it would be a tricky one, I like NN for longer names probably because my own can't be shortened!

Not the biggest issue in the world I know!

Both names are nice only Lydia I know does get called Lyd though x

ooooohbetty · 03/05/2020 11:31

Both are lovely names.

worstwitch18 · 03/05/2020 11:40

Both are very nice names.

For nicknames, I have known three Lydias.

One was Lyddie as a little girl and then Lyd when she was a teen.

One was nicknamed Lily by her little brother and it stuck, although her little sister called her Didi or sometimes Deedee .

One was nicknamed Cricket - no idea where that came from! Sometimes nicknames just happen.

daisypond · 03/05/2020 11:50

I suppose you could use Lia for Lydia, if you really have to.

Keepyourginup · 03/05/2020 11:52

Francesca. I'm sorry but I always think 'Lydia rhymes with chlamydia'

Jj2431 · 03/05/2020 12:52

There is no point in using a name you're going off, however, in answer to your question, I LOVE Francesca. Lydia just rhymes with a certain sti for me sorry. That is my immature brain though lol

LotusClover · 03/05/2020 13:13

I love both but sadly I can't get past what Lydia rhymes with. It could lead to teasing when she gets to secondary school, which is a shame because it's a lovely name.

Francesca is probably my favourite out of the two anyway.

Brumcherub · 03/05/2020 13:23

Both names are lovely. A Lydia I know liked to be called Lyddie until she started school then preferred Lydia.

Aber9 · 03/05/2020 13:25

Lydia. I desperately wanted it, but DH couldn’t get over the whole Lydia Chlamydia thing

DramaAlpaca · 03/05/2020 15:21

I really love Lydia Wren, so pretty.

I don't like Francesca at all, mainly because I dislike all the diminutives.

stardance · 03/05/2020 15:26

I have a Francesca so that gets my vote. We expected her name to be shortened to Frankie but it hasn't been, it wouldn't suit her. She has other nicknames instead.

MikeUniformMike · 03/05/2020 20:01

Lydia. Watch out for Lyds. Lydie is sweet.

bridgetreilly · 03/05/2020 20:26

Francesca by a mile.

CurlyEndive · 03/05/2020 20:27

Lydia

Lala241280 · 03/05/2020 20:36

Defo Francesca so pretty

Leighwalk · 03/05/2020 20:39

Lydia is such a lovely name.

Xiaoxiong · 03/05/2020 20:45

My dad used to sing us a song which I now sing to my kids that goes "Lydia, O Lydia, the encyclo-pidia , Lydia the tatooed lady...her back has the battle of waterloo, her neck has the wreck of the Hesperus too, and over it all waves the red white and blue! You can learn a lot from Lydia!" Grin

Krazynights34 · 03/05/2020 20:50

I have a Lydia- and sometimes (I don’t know why!!) I end up calling her Lids (and I hate that).
So I’d obviously pick Lydia.

zigaziga · 03/05/2020 20:54

I like both.

I’m still annoyed that DH vetoed Lydia several years on.

Bobsandbitz · 03/05/2020 21:33

Love both names!!!! Why not use both?

Sb131216 · 03/05/2020 22:43

I love Lydia Wren but they are both lovely names
Maybe wait until she is born?

123Dancewithme · 03/05/2020 22:45

Lydia, definitely. I prefer Frances to Francesca.
