Need middle name ideas

I think we've settled on a name for our baby due this summer - Rose or Rosie (probably Rose on birth certificate). Second choice if that doesn't feel right could be Sally. We both like these names.

I don't have very strong opinions on middle names but feel strongly it needs to flow as a whole. Last name is a short 2 syllables starting with a hard C. To me it feels like the middle name needs to be longer to balance eg Elizabeth.

Husband wants the middle name Anne for his grandma. Not against the name or sentiment at all, I just feel Rose Anne is too short and boring. I don't want any confusion that she might be called Roseanne either.

Any ideas?

Will the baby have one surname or two?
If just one surname, I would suggest a middle name from the other side of the family.
If you've taken your husband's surname that means a middle name from your side.

What about Rose Annabelle C- - or
Sally Susanne C- -? That way you get the Anne into it and they sound like separate names, also the flow seems good! (In my opinion anyway!)

Good point, I have his surname but that would still technically be 2 names for his family. Only problem is there are no family names my side I'm interested in using!

So there's nothing you like out of any of the following?
Your mum's first and middle name
Your grandmothers' first and middle names
Your own middle name (or a variation of it)
The female versions of your father's first and middle names
Any surnames that could work or be adapted as a girl's middle name?

Rose Charlotte
Rose Edith (although personally I'd prefer it the other way round - Edith Rose)
Rose Elizabeth is beautiful

Love the name Rose 🌹

Rose Antonia

I have thought through all of those options before, and they either don't work for various reasons or aren't nice. The only exception is my middle name, which happens to be Elizabeth, so could use that because it sounds nice, but there is not sentimental attachment to it that makes it trump my grandmother-in-law's name for meaning if that makes sense.

I love Rose for a first name but I agree the middle name should be longer to balance it out. I also see no harm in having two middle names.

Rose (X) Anne (Surname)

If Anne is a name from his side of the family and the baby has his surname, then really you should have total free rein on this one. So either choose a name from your side of the family or someone you would like to honour (doesn't have to be a relative) or just pick a name you like. I would pick something with at least three syllables and avoiding the O vowel sound or an A at the end so it flows well with your other two names. I would also go for something quite strong sounding because Rose is so feminine.

Rose Penelope Anne
Rose Elizabeth Anne
Rose Beatrice Anne
Rose Katherine Anne
Rose Caroline Anne
Rose Margaret Anne
Rose Eleanor Anne
Rose Hermione Anne

Just some ideas.

I do think Elizabeth is a beautiful name and works well as a middle name with Rose. If it's your middle name too that's a big bonus.

NameChange30 · 03/05/2020 09:57

You could have both middle name.
Rose Elizabeth Ann is nice.

NameChange30 · 03/05/2020 09:57
