My husband is a Rory. It means red king, I think. Love it.

My best friend is called Rory so I'm biased. It's lovely.

daisypond · 02/05/2020 18:58

I like it

BackforGood · 02/05/2020 19:03

I like it to.
Timeless - never 'fashionable' and never 'out of fashion'. Likely to be the only one in his circle (though is potentially more common in Scotland than in other countries?).
Easy to spell / read if anyone weren't familiar with it.

StylishDuck · 02/05/2020 19:05

I like it. Though it's the name of DS's favourite toy (a stuffed dinosaur) Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 02/05/2020 19:06

It's a bit of a curse for poor souls like me who can't pronounce their 'r's properly.... BlushGrin

Ash06 · 02/05/2020 19:07

I really love it too! I found out what I’m having on Wednesday, as much as I don’t mind on boy or girl I am finding boys names a lot nicer!

What I mean to say is, if it turns out he can't, he's in for a tough time.

I’m not keen but I think I’m definitely in the minority.

florascotia2 · 02/05/2020 20:29

It's risen quite rapidly in popularity in England and Wales names.darkgreener.com/#rory Now a top 50 name.

As previous posters have said, it's a Scottish Gaelic name (in origin) that means Red King.
Rory is the Anglicised spelling. The Gaelic spelling - acording to trad spelling rules- is Ruairidh.
The two versions don't sound the same.

StylishDuck · 02/05/2020 20:31

Ruairidh/Ruairi is pronounced "roo ree" whereas Rory is pronounced "row ree"
