Which name do you prefer?

We would probably shorten to Alf/ Alfie or Wilf/ Wilfie

I don’t like either (sorry) but if they were the only options I’d go Wilf. Loads of children called Alfie in my child’s primary school.

ContessaferJones · 02/05/2020 12:49

I like Alfred - shortens easily to Alf!

lemontreebird · 02/05/2020 12:54

Too soon for me - Grandad's generation.

Oh, and Alf Garnett.

emmathedilemma · 02/05/2020 13:10

I like both but think there's a lot more Alfies around, although maybe they're all older now.....is it still popular? It seemed to have a real boom maybe 15 or so ago.

ofwarren · 02/05/2020 13:12

I prefer Alfred but mainly because I really don't like Wilf.
Wilfred is ok if it's not shortened to Wilf.
That is just my personal choice though, there is nothing wrong with either name.

indecisivewoman81 · 02/05/2020 13:15

I like Wilfred

CrocodileFondue · 02/05/2020 13:23

Depends where you live, round here there were tons of Alfies for a while but that's mostly over now.
I know lots of toddler/preschool Wilfreds, they will probably all end up as Will and merge with all the Williams by secondary school age.

LouLouLoo · 02/05/2020 13:57

Boris has just announced that his new baby is called Wilfred. May sway your thinking one way or another!

Millicent10 · 02/05/2020 13:58

Now Bono has called his baby Wilfred I would avoid that.

imwellardme · 02/05/2020 13:59

Carrie is that you??

IsadoraQuagmire · 02/05/2020 14:04

Both lovely, but I prefer Wilfred (big fan of Wilfred Owen)

DramaAlpaca · 02/05/2020 14:05

Alfred is marginally better than Wilfred, so Alfred.

Fisher1008 · 02/05/2020 14:31

I’m not sure I want my son to have the same name as Boris’ son or worse everyone to think I was inspired by him!

OP posts:
SpencerReidsMistress · 02/05/2020 14:32

Boris Johnsons named his baby Wilfred. Must be coming into fashion.

JollyGiraffe12 · 02/05/2020 14:32

Not fond of either but Wilfred of the two

ClementineTangerine · 02/05/2020 14:34

Hmm probably Wilfred nn Wilf even with boris having named his son this!

That's mainly because I dont like alfie.

pilates · 02/05/2020 14:35

Wilfred

Elderflower14 · 02/05/2020 14:43

I have a Wilfred named after Wilfred Owen... 💙

kimlo · 02/05/2020 14:47

Wilf is quiet popular but not popular enough for people not to think you were inspired by Boris.

So I would choose Alfred, but I don't like Alfie much.

Vodkaforbreakfast · 02/05/2020 14:56

Neither

But Alfred is slightly better

TannatTart · 02/05/2020 15:00

Neither.

helpmeunderstand1 · 02/05/2020 15:02

Alfred

YetiAnotherNameChange · 02/05/2020 15:04

I don't like either.
Alfred if I really, really had to choose, though.

YetiAnotherNameChange · 02/05/2020 15:05

Meant to add- I dislike Wilf even more. Makes me think of Waif.

bubblesforlife · 02/05/2020 15:10

Please don't take the same name as Boris's baby! It would be forever assumed you were inspired by him.

Alfred it is!!! Easy decision Grin
