Mathilde or Margot?

Just that really- husband is French if wondering. Middle name will either be Elizabeth or Evangeline- 2 ladies we’d like to honour but I’m not too bothered on the ‘flow’ of the middle name as they’re so rarely used, it’s more of an added bonus if they go together nicely.

There is a little girl in DD's class called Margeux... I love it!

Juliaplus4 · 01/05/2020 22:30

I like Margot Elizabeth.

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/05/2020 22:32

Love Margot, it’s getting more popular now so won’t seem out there (I know two little Margot’s)
Mathilde is lovely but I think likely to get misspelt a lot

CyberNan · 01/05/2020 22:32

go for them all... mathilde margot elizabeth evangeline smith.

TheoriginalLEM · 01/05/2020 22:35

Mathilde is a lovely name, as is Margot.

I think Margot goes better with Evangeline.

Flummingbird · 01/05/2020 22:41

I love Margot. I agree that Mathilde will have to be corrected constantly.

Rubywhox · 01/05/2020 23:08

Margot Evangeline is stunning

DramaAlpaca · 01/05/2020 23:17

Mathilde for me, very nice.

Margot isn't attractive to look at written down or to say.

Marimari93 · 01/05/2020 23:47

Mathilde! How I adore Mathilde- criminally underused.

123Dancewithme · 01/05/2020 23:47

Margot Evangeline is lovely

WeAreRevoltingChildren · 01/05/2020 23:54

I have a niece called Margaux... I thought that was the French spelling? Always thought it was individual and lovely.

Pelleas · 02/05/2020 00:14

Mathilde

babynamelover · 02/05/2020 04:18

Margot Evangeline 😍

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 02/05/2020 04:59

Margot sounds awfully middle aged to me.

Msfoxy17 · 02/05/2020 05:04

Love Margot. Would have considered it for DD if not for our surname.
Mathilde not so much.
Margot Elizabeth is really nice.

Lalalucyy · 02/05/2020 08:50

Hm ok so I think this is leaning towards Margot at the moment. I did think Mathilde may be an issue with spelling and pronunciation as it’s not as well known as Margot.

WeAreRevoltingChildren I think both spellings are used in France but as far as we know Margot is the original one. Margaux does look very pretty though.

I like Mathilde but reckon it would get misspelt a lot. Not keen on Margot, it’s quite popular atm.

Whatsyourflava · 02/05/2020 08:58

I LOVE Margot
Never met one , but just love the name

forsucksfake · 02/05/2020 09:20

I prefer Mathilde because I think it works for all stages of life and because it is not as common as Margot. I feel like Margot is a grown woman's name.

Lalalucyy · 02/05/2020 11:46

@forsucksfake that’s interesting- I’ve had someone tell me Mathilde is too grown up for a child

OP posts:
forsucksfake · 02/05/2020 12:06

Haha. Horses for courses, I guess.

I tend to associate the name Margot with Margot Kidder and Hemingway's granddaughter (Margaux), both of whom died tragically. Sorry to say. But that is just from my childhood and no one nowadays would make those associations.

The important thing is that you, your partner and your daughter love the name. Smile

hels71 · 02/05/2020 20:25

I teach a Margot and she is lovely. Definitely go for Margot.

peperethecat · 02/05/2020 20:44

Margot Elizabeth or Margot Evangeline, both lovely.

Chewbecca · 02/05/2020 20:52

Margot for the same reasons as others. A) it is lovely and B) Mathilde has too much potential for confusion on spelling and pronunciation.

But if all these votes for Margot are making you sad, you know Mathilde is the one!
