I have a son who’s called William and just had another little boy. We’re struggling whether to call him Vincent (known as Vince/Vinnie) or Thomas (known as Tom/Tommy) what do people think???

Thomas. Unless you are in the Mafia.

Boireannachlaidir · 28/04/2020 20:55

Vincent.

Orphlids · 28/04/2020 20:55

Thomas. Vincent is a burglar.

LittleCabbage · 28/04/2020 20:55

I like Vincent - Vinnie whilst little, then Vince when older.

DramaAlpaca · 28/04/2020 20:57

I prefer Thomas, but I think Vincent might be starting to grow on me.

Vincent, I love it. Also really like Victor but not sure I could get over the Meldrew association

Thankssomuch · 28/04/2020 21:02

Tommy

Vincent is ok but he doesn’t sound like he’s from the same family as William, unless he’s Willy it Billy in which case Vinnie goes very well!
Otherwise, I’d probably go for Thomas.
They’re such different names does one not suit him more than the other? Have you tried the flip the coin trick?

Thomas

Thomas seems to 'go' better with William, as a style of name.

But, Will and Vin, Billy and Vinnie sound good.

Vincent is such a 'mixed messages' name; soulful Vincent Van Gogh, 'hard man' Vinnie Jones, and Vince sounds 'tough'. I think it's mostly a British / continental variation.

Having said that, a little Vinnie sounds really cute and there are a lot of Thomases around.

Luckingfovely · 28/04/2020 22:20

Thomas - yes. Vincent - please no.

NameChange30 · 28/04/2020 22:28

I prefer Vincent but I think Thomas goes better with William. I'm not a huge fan of Thomas/Tom though, there are so many in my generation.

James?
