Girls name help. German/British family

Hi I could really use some help finding a name for our daughter. I was so sure she was a boy that I didn't even consider a girls name and I can't convert the one I had chosen (Joshua).

We have only one rule in that both families have to be able to say the name. So any names with a 'th' are out as Germans don't make that sound. Also our too boys have classical biblical names so something that would fit in with that.

The names I had considered were:
Marie
Bonnie
Eleonore (German version of Eleanor)
Annika
Maeve

But to be honest me and my family are completely stumped. I really don't want to come up with a name after she is born as I did that with ds2 and actually regretted it but it's too late to change it now. Please help

I love Annika.

Tiramisuiloveyou · 28/04/2020 17:15

I don’t speak German but what about Nina Freya Emily Anna Suzannah or Suzanne.

Pantheon · 28/04/2020 17:22

Annika and Marie are both lovely. I think a couple of the others might get mispronounced by Brits.

AuntieUrsula · 29/04/2020 11:12

Hannah, Anna, Emily, Julia, Maria, Sophia, Sophie, Clara, Catrin, Evelyn, Louisa, Sarah, Alexandra, Anne-Marie, Jessica, Pia

These are all names of German girls I know (either family or from the German exchanges my DDs have been on). Mostly teens though, not little ones.

Mary?

Love Maeve. Annika is lovely too. Both should be pretty clear for both nationalities.

Annika is my favourite from your list.

Eleonore is so similar to Eleanor that it's going to cause a lifetime of spelling issues (and pronunciation? Or is it the same?) Not necessarily a problem but worth bearing in mine. I love Eleanor.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. We are actually thinking about Susanne as a middle name as that's a name in the family.

Lola. (Run Lola Run was a German film I recall)

MikeUniformMike · 29/04/2020 11:40

Bettina, Meike.

Susanne is lovely. My suggestions may be a bit dated. Petra and Beata are nice but might be grannyish in German.

Emilia
Melissa

FluffyEggsontoast · 29/04/2020 19:44

Marie and Bonnie are really lovely

homeschoolchaos · 29/04/2020 19:49

Clara (Klara) is having a bit of a resurgence at the moment, or Astrid? I work with a Katarina, but you also have Freya and Katia (Freyja and Katja possible authentic spellings). My Anglo-German cousin is called Jennifer.

Ellmau · 29/04/2020 21:00

I know a German Ariane and I think that’s a lovely name.

I need a name that works in French rather than German, but you might find that some of the suggestions on my thread work in German too:
