Flower names when surname is Rose

What are your honest opinions on having a flower name for a girl when surname is Rose? So far we like Poppy and Ivy but dont know if it's a bit much with the surname. I love Florence but not keen on any of the nicknames for it

Just remembered I once knew a Caroline Rose.

Anyone who meets her for the first time may struggle to remember whether Rose or the other flower name is her actual first name, so I would worry that some people would mistakenly call her Rose. This happened a lot to a guy I knew at school whose first name was a very common surname - everyone got mixed up all the time.

I would go for a first name that does not get used as a surname to make it easier to remember which is which.

It does run the risk of being a bit twee, like a pattern out of a Cath Kidson catalogue or something.

Use any name you like Rose is pretty shes a girl after all

Rose is my maiden name. I kept it as a middle name. First name is two syllables but not a flower.

Thanks for all your ideas. Rose is my married name and although I havent got a flower themed first name some people still presume that Rose is part of my first name so I think unfortunately they will get that anyway!

Annabel is perfect.

I think both poppy and Rose work well op. As you said people may think it's double barrelled regardless. Day to day she'd just go by Ivy or poppy so there wouldt be loads of confusion x

I married a Rose, too and often get 'No, your surname' when I answer 'Rose' to 'What's your name?' (Usually with an unspoken you idiot')
I always used to love the name Rosemary, but that was obviously out for my DD. We called her Amber, which sounds lovely with Rose, but then along came Ms Levonchuck...
And my SIL was called Mary, which led to a lot of jokes about being sunk or stuck in the mud in the early 80s. You never really know with any name what associations it's going to acquire.

It could be pretty cool and novel to have a totally floral name.

I personally wouldn't.

I don't think you should use any flower names, I'm sorry.

Rose is a beautiful, elegant surname though, I wish it was my surname!

I would go for a slightly longer first name, and something not too "pretty", because otherwise the overall effect with the surname Rose could be too saccharine.

Alternatively, if you prefer shorter names and you like Ivy, why not consider names like Ida, Eva, Evelyn, Ada, Ava, Aria etc? They have a very similar feel to them without being flower names.

A very old lady who used to babysit me was called Rose.

She married Mr Lavender.

How about having a longer middle name that isn't nature related? That way there are at least times where it's clear Rose isn't part of the first name - and I think the rhythm helps.

Something like (perhaps) Violet Alexandra Rose?

I know a Rebecca and an Emma where both surnames were Rose. Beautiful names.

Poppy Rose and Florence Rose don't flow that well.
Not keen on Ivy - clingy, creeping weed and poison Ivy.

I'd avoid a flower name. Lily Rose etc sounds like a hyphenated first-name.

Something longer and stronger would be better.
Catherine Rose seems a nice combination.
