It's pronounced like ray-a only reason is because I love the name ray-a but if it's spelt raya, because of where I live some would say it like rya, due to most people pronouncing maya mya x

🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm saying what people will be thinking

Notso · 25/04/2020 21:18

Reye-ah.

Bittersweet12 · 25/04/2020 21:19

@lockdownstress evening. If I wanted your opinion on the actual name I would of stated that, really really grateful for your ever so lovely input but you might want to take it elsewhere, elsewhere being where it's wanted and asked for x

OP posts:
CodenameVillanelle · 25/04/2020 21:19

Thing is that Raey isn't a straightforward spelling of the sound Ray. It could be Ra-ie or Rye just as easily. Just go for Raya and correct people if they say it wrong.

Bertucci · 25/04/2020 21:20

Ray-ah?

Is it made up?

And why the x at the end of posts?

Bittersweet12 · 25/04/2020 21:21

And @lockdownstress there's a few people I know of with the same spelling of the name so it's a little disrespectful but again thank you xxxxxx

@CodenameVillanelle again much grateful for a response but if this thread was 'can I have an opinion on this name please' I'd be more grateful for that

Is it made up?

And why the x at the end of posts?

All names are made up.
And why the nastiness?

Notso · 25/04/2020 21:28

...where I live some would say it like rya, due to most people pronouncing maya mya

Maya can be pronounced both ways though.

BackforGood · 25/04/2020 21:28

I know someone who has this name, with this spelling.
The Mum pronounces it Ray-a / Ray-ya

However, I have had to look at various documents about this child and the number of times it gets spelled wrong would put me off using it completely

bridgetreilly · 25/04/2020 21:33

You can ask what you like, but this is a public internet forum and people can talk about what they like, whether or not that's what you asked. That's how the internet works.

Bittersweet12 · 25/04/2020 21:34

@bridgetreilly completely aware of how the internet works, but I absolutely didn't ask for people to give there opinions in such a rude manner.

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 25/04/2020 21:35

No, and yet they are perfectly entitled to do that.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 25/04/2020 21:36

I appreciate that you haven’t asked for opinions but most people do want other people’s opinions on this forum.

I would pronounce it Raya to rhyme with Freya but I would even if you spelt it Raya. I quite like the name but prefer the Raya spelling.

Cosyblanky · 25/04/2020 21:36

Use Raya or just Rae. The other spelling doesn't make sense to me, but I only speak English! Don't worry about pronunciation where you live, in the UK we pronounce names from around the world and do get it right if corrected. People will take their lead from you.

Bittersweet12 · 25/04/2020 21:39

@bridgetreilly they may be. But it's rude and uncalled for

OP posts:
beccalyn · 25/04/2020 21:39

How about spelling it Reya? I don't think that could be pronounced wrong.

CalleighDoodle · 25/04/2020 21:40

Rae (no y sound) then ya.

CalleighDoodle · 25/04/2020 21:41

How about spelling it Reya? I don't think that could be pronounced wrong.

I think op wants rye ah???

beccalyn · 25/04/2020 21:43

Oh I thought she wanted ray-a Confused

MrsP2015 · 25/04/2020 21:53

Ray-ah.

It's lovely!

Spirali · 25/04/2020 22:40

I love it. Almost called DD Soraya with the nickname Raya.

I’ve seen a triplet called Raeya in instagram. I do prefer the Raya spelling, only by a little though Smile

Spirali · 25/04/2020 22:44

@Bittersweet12 I don’t think you need to worry about people pronouncing Raya like Maya (my-ah) because Rye-ah really doesn’t sound it or feel right to say. I just don’t think people’s brains will jump to that pronunciation.
