I love the name Amelie and my husband wants Amelia. I like Amelia a lot but love Amelie as much softer but is it too French? We're not French.

I love Amelie.

Amelia has the awful 'mealy' sound in it so I really dislike it. Amelie is ok, but just sounds like Ammer-Lee and somehow therefore doesn't sound as nice as it looks. Amalia as a pp suggested is nice.

Amelia is overused. I don't like it because of the Me bit, and it is a condition.
Amelie is one of those names that look pretty but sound weak.

Emily is much nicer.

Prefer Amelie (by miles) and def dont need to have any French heritage or whatever to use it

Amelie

Amelie will be misread as Amelia and misheard as Emily. Which is a shame because it's a nice name.

Amelia is lovely but its class seems to have been killed off a bit by its over popularity, which is also a shame.

I'd just go for something different unless you're totally set on one of these names.

How about Amalia instead?

CodenameVillanelle · 26/04/2020 17:32

Neither if I'm honest
Amelia is boring and Amelie is dated and sounds rubbish in an English accent
