Expecting first baby late July, we know that we are having a boy. DH likes the name Ronnie, which I wasn't originally keen on but coming round to it.
We originally liked Oliver but decided against it because of how popular it is. We also like Alfie but I think I prefer Ronnie out of the two and is probably less popular... Thoughts please?

It's cute but it is definitely growing in popularity. I know of three born in the last year Confused

Sexnotgender · 25/04/2020 13:01

Awful.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 25/04/2020 13:02

One of the Kray twins. Gangster. Murder. Violence. Prison.

DurhamDurham · 25/04/2020 13:04

It's awful, sounds like a thug's name. Irrational, I know, but you did ask for opinions.

Bohomie · 25/04/2020 13:07

I there are 4 Ronnie's and 4 Alfie's in my DC's year of school (year 3). 2 classes per year group

Anoisagusaris · 25/04/2020 13:09

It’s slang for moustache in Ireland.

Inspiralcarpetry · 25/04/2020 13:12

Really sorry, but I can only think of Biggs or Kray. Both criminals.
I like it short for Veronica for a girl. Not helpful obviously..

Chirpychirpy3 · 25/04/2020 13:22

Don’t like it but I’m not a fan of nicknames as full names.

Nixen · 25/04/2020 13:23

Very chavvy now, sorry

Itoldyouiwasill · 25/04/2020 13:25

One of the biggest thugs I know ( plus his wife of course) had a baby at the beginning of the year and called him this.
He has openly gloated that he'll make sure his boy lives up to his name
Please think carefully before you do this to a child

DonLewis · 25/04/2020 13:30

I know a teenaged Ronnie. Really lovely kid.

Thefaceofboe · 25/04/2020 13:39

@Itoldyouiwasill that is literally the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Why would that put OP off, she doesn’t know them?

Orphlids · 25/04/2020 13:43

There are loads of kids named Ronnie in my neck of the woods. Loads. I’m always frightened of their mothers. The kids all look like they’ll go to prison when they’re older. The mothers all look like that would be something to be proud of. Alfies fall into the same bracket. Oliver is very nice, except for being pretty dull and extremely commonplace.

daisypond · 25/04/2020 13:46

Awful.

kazza446 · 25/04/2020 13:55

I’ve a dog called Ronnie! After Ron from Harry Potter

Wallabyone · 25/04/2020 13:59

I actually know a few now-I think it is the new Alfie, which is also still really popular. It's not for me, but it's no better or worse than Albie, Arthur, Charlie, etc.

chickenninja · 25/04/2020 14:01

I like it. I think Mrs hinch has a Ronnie but I could be wrong.

balonzz · 25/04/2020 14:02

Terrible name - sorry

pinkpinecone · 25/04/2020 14:05

Sorry but it sounds like a wannabe gangster name which is a bit tragic

timetest · 25/04/2020 14:07

It sounds a bit too twee for an adult but cute for a child.

Bloomburger · 25/04/2020 14:10

Common and not in the many of sense.

Whatsyourflava · 25/04/2020 14:13

I quite like it!

How about Marley? Idris? Rex? Otis? Cole? Chester? Blake? Rudy/Rudi? Dexter? Casper? Barnaby? Tristan? Kit? Billy?

All much lower down the charts than Ronnie if that’s a factor

Also, similar to Ronnie but less common how about:
Vincent (Vinnie)
Laurence (Laurie)

Tomorrowsanewday · 25/04/2020 14:15

Sorry OP. I’m not a fan.
Too many bad connotations.
Ronnie Kray
Ronnie Biggs
The two Ronnies

Itoldyouiwasill · 25/04/2020 14:16

Theface
Do you actually mean literally?

Cissyandflora · 25/04/2020 14:22

That’s a terrible name. Agree with most other posters. Also awful is Alfie and Charlie. All really chavvy names that give an impression of the child’s family. And it’s not a good impression. Yep I know that’s not a nice thing to say but I absolutely judge people on the names they choose for their children.
