Which spelling?

We're not sharing our name choice with anyone else, so looking for help here!

Which spelling for our baby boy, due soon:

Caspar
Or
Casper

Using the 'K' spelling isn't an option, as baby's initials would be KKK 🙅‍♀️

I'm leaning ever so slightly towards Casper, but worry about the "friendly ghost" connection.

So, which spelling do you prefer and why?

Thanks ♥️

I always liked Caspar as a biblical name (one of the wise men) but it doesn't look right to me written now with an A now I think because Casper is more well known to me (probably the ghost) but not a bad connection to make he's super cute Grin

87Callista · 25/04/2020 12:41

The A spelling is the 'original' spelling but Casper the adorable ghost has made the E spelling popular and possibly more common today...?
I'll check....
CASPAR (boys): Up from 1104th to 604th
CASPER (boys): Up from 2357th to 306th

Our friendly ghost wins!

I think you could use either and it'd be perfectly acceptable.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 25/04/2020 12:41

I guess that depends on the nuances of your pronunciation.
Cas-perr or cas-Parr

EyeShipMiceElf · 25/04/2020 12:42

Looks better with an A.

SnowdropFox · 25/04/2020 12:45

I prefer the per pronunciation so Casper for me.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2020 12:49

Just asked DH as this was on our list.
If you had Casoer would you have it with an a or an e?

DH looks confused and says "Cespar??"

So ignoring my useless husband.

Caspar

Nachonacho · 25/04/2020 12:51

I prefer Casper - it's pronounced very differently around here if it's with an A instead of E. Fab name, I'm sad my DH has vetoed it for our DC2 that's due soon!

Wheresthebiffer2 · 25/04/2020 12:52

I prefer Casper.
The A spelling looks more "foreign" to me.

StellaDelMare · 25/04/2020 12:53

Love this name!

Definitely a Casper vote for me though.
Caspar might get some different pronunciations

bridgetreilly · 25/04/2020 12:54

Caspar.

And it's not a biblical name. There's a tradition about the names of the wise men, but they aren't in the Bible, which does not even specify how many of them there were.

Astronica · 25/04/2020 14:11

I like both spellings - lovely name - so not much help here. I would probably err towards Caspar as it feels the most traditional, however if Casper is the most used then it makes sense to go that way too.

Whatsyourflava · 25/04/2020 14:15

Yes agree with @87Callista

Looking at the statistics I’d just pick the more common spelling as that will be easier for him.

Casper

Whatsyourflava · 25/04/2020 14:15

Lovely name by the way

IckleBear · 25/04/2020 14:56

Casper

georgialondon · 25/04/2020 15:10

If in the uk I think ppl would assume it's spelt Casper. So I'd go for that.

iamrubyfinch · 25/04/2020 15:10

Thanks for this. Are those rankings from 2018?

I prefer the Casper spelling.

iamrubyfinch · 25/04/2020 15:12

@Nachonacho interesting, I wouldn't have thought they'd be pronounced differently! Do people say "CasPARR"? Where abouts do you live? We're up north.

daisypond · 25/04/2020 15:16

It’s a nice name. I would want to spell it Caspar, as that’s more traditional, but most people will go for Casper, so to make life easier I’d probably go for that.

Nachonacho · 25/04/2020 15:18

@iamrubyfinch Exactly that! CasPARR and CasPERR if that makes sense Grin I'm near Brighton so West Sussex way!

iamrubyfinch · 25/04/2020 15:43

@Nachonacho, I wouldn't have thought that so good to know - thank you!
