Boys names with Difficult surname

MamaK36 · 25/04/2020 07:39

Hi, we have started thinking about names and really struggling with boys names. Our surname is Kazilionis which is Lithuanian (husband is Lithuanian). I like a mixture of traditional and unique names but don’t want anything super popular. We love Henry but it’s too popular right now. We also love Edison but I hate the nn Eddie. The main thing we both agree on is a boy should have a strong name.

Other names we have on our list/considered

Benjamin
Otis
Axel
Jude
Austin
Clarke (my maiden name)

Any suggestions welcome.

Thank you

Joseph
Thomas
Owen
Jacob
Gabriel
Ralph
Alex
Leo

I work in a nursery and none of the above are popular at the moment. There are more Harrys and Henrys than you can shake a stick at!

I think Henry goes really well with your surname. And you love the name. Who cares how many there are in his class.

Whatsyourflava · 25/04/2020 08:03

Love all your names except Clarke as it does sound more like a surname but I think it would be a nice middle name

Benjamin
Otis
Axel
Jude
Austin

All great names

Clarke doesn't really go, but all the rest would be lovely. It's a fantastic surname btw.

How many syllables when you say your surname? (I get five but could be saying it wrong!). I'd look for a name with three syllables to 'balance' - so Benjamin works well, or Edison.

MamaK36 · 25/04/2020 08:27

Our surname has 4 syllables. Before I knew otherwise I pronounced it with 5 too. We do both love Edison but can’t get away with Eddie.

My favourites from your list are Axel (this sounds great with your surname) and Jude. I really like the name Otis too but, because both names end with -is, I don't think it goes as well with your surname as the other names on your list.

Some other suggestions:
Aaron
Eben
Felix
Finn
Levi
Evan
Zane
Otto

Go Lithuanian?

Matis
Lukas
Darius
Tavas

Love Axel

topcat2014 · 25/04/2020 08:57

I always vote Troy, someone will pick it!

AmelieTaylor · 25/04/2020 09:08

Benjamin would be cruel. He'll be 10 before he can write his full name!

You cannot use Otis with your surname!

I don't think any of the others realky work

except maybe Jude (but I'm not keen on it)

The other Lithuanian names go better.

Or Finn,
Nathan
Paul
Peter
James
Matthew

Actually lots of names go well, they just need to be less 'vowely' than your list.

Good luck

littlejalapeno · 25/04/2020 09:23

Another vote for Henry

babynamelover · 25/04/2020 10:14

Otis
Emmett
Fergus
Amos
Heath
Elliot
Rupert
Emerson
Elijah
Beckett
Jasper
Jonas

That's our boys list for #2.

LotusClover · 25/04/2020 10:37

Jude is the only one that goes well with the surname imo, and my favourite of the list too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/04/2020 18:59

That's only in your nursery though, MissyB. I'm falling over Leos and Gabriels.
I like the idea of Clark, fab as a,name o r a surname.

BeaLola · 29/04/2020 01:18
