Hello! This is my first post for my first baby 😊. My baby boy is due in July which is flying round. No boy name stood out until I came across Toledo. I really like it, thinking Tolly for short. What are your thoughts?

Hmm not one I have heard of and a quick google suggests it is a place in Spain and a surname. I'm not keen on the sound really, Tolly is ok I guess. But if you love it, go for it. It will certainly be unique!

FerryCrossTheMersey · 23/04/2020 13:41

Thanks for your reply 😊 I was worried I couldn’t use a Spanish name as I’m not from Spain

I prefer Toledo to Tolly. Tolly sounds quite similar to Dolly (imagine calling him in from playing out with his friends)

I probably wouldn't use it myself but people do use place names (London, India, Paris etc)

I'm not keen - sorry

Inconnu · 23/04/2020 14:14

I love Tolly. Reminds me of The Children of Green Knowe.

JKScot4 · 23/04/2020 14:16

Oh no, used to be a disco near me years ago; Toledo Junction 🤣🤣
Was he conceived in a Seat Toledo??

SeeWhoRustsFirst · 23/04/2020 14:25

Are you aware it's the name of a Seat car? Not even a nice one. That would put me off but maybe you don't mind that!

bridgetreilly · 23/04/2020 14:28

It's not a Spanish name, it's a Spanish city. It's not a name at all.

I really don't like it.

Fantasiaa · 23/04/2020 14:28

Tbh no. I don’t like toledo at all. It reminds me of tornado and Tolly isn’t a nice nickname at all. Sorry x

FerryCrossTheMersey · 23/04/2020 14:29

@JKScot4 oh god, I never knew there was a car. Maybe not then... I still like Tolly. Do you think I can use Tolly, or do I need a professional name?

OP posts:
littlefawn · 23/04/2020 14:30

My first thought was of the car tbh

BrutusMcDogface · 23/04/2020 14:30

I really wouldn’t, sorry.

Tommy?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 23/04/2020 14:30

Toledo is dreadful. Tolly is even worse!

BrutusMcDogface · 23/04/2020 14:31

Actually I’m grasping as straws here but if you called him Bartholomew, you could use Tolly as a nickname?

Giganticshark · 23/04/2020 14:39

Tolkien? (so?)
Talan?
Timothy?

Giganticshark · 23/04/2020 14:40

That was meant to be (SP?)

JKScot4 · 23/04/2020 15:06

You need to google Tolly, it’s slang for shit and various other things 🤣🤣

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 23/04/2020 15:12

As a PP suggested, I googled it.

Oh dear, just searched Tolly slang and this was the first result: Tolly definition: a castrated calf. Maybe find another name and nick OP Shock. Also found the reference for toilet related stuff.

FerryCrossTheMersey · 23/04/2020 15:29

Thanks everyone. The Seat car put me off before all the other meanings 😬😅 although I did think Bartholomew was a good suggestion. I suppose I’m back at the begging now. Open to suggestions
