I like it. Pretty, short and not too out there.

DariaMorgendorffer · 22/04/2020 20:53

Lovely name, but seems to be getting very popular (if that's something that would bother you).

Elouera · 22/04/2020 20:55

I prefer Luca. The associated with lunatic for Luna just puts me off.

stickygotstuck · 22/04/2020 20:57

Beautiful.

But I must confess we chickened out of using it for DD and it's a middle name instead. I was worried about the inevitable loony name calling and that many would only see the Harry Potter connection.

But if that does not worry you, go ahead, it's a lovely name. And a beautiful celestial object! Wink

I love the name Luna but I know four different people who have called their dog Luna in the last 2 years and that now means I see it as a dogs name. There are two Luna's in my puppy training class of 6 dogs!

CCaK · 22/04/2020 20:58

I love it, but it's far too popular now so I wouldn't use it. It seems every newborn girl/kitten/puppy is named Luna right now, there's be 5 to a class in 4 years time.

2 from work recently gave birth and named their babies Luna, plus my neighbour, and one of my cousins last year. It's this years "Lily".

daisypond · 22/04/2020 21:00

No. Very faddy and a bit naff. Lunatic, lunacy, loony, etc. The Greek moon goddess is better than the Roman one. Selene, Selena, Celine, etc.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 22/04/2020 21:00

It's my dog's name and I know at least two other canine Lunas, although I have heard it once on a child. My dog gets called Luna-tic and Looney Tunes, amongst other things, so the same nicknames could get used for your child by others. I do like it as a name though.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 22/04/2020 21:02

I'll just point out my dog is 8 so I've not recently jumped on the bandwagon Grin

Whatsyourflava · 22/04/2020 21:07

I really love the name Luna! Not actually met anyone with this name but a friend of a friend has a gorgeous little girl called Luna- really suits her

tiredanddangerous · 22/04/2020 21:17

Harry Potter. And that character is called looney for short.

Chelsie2020 · 22/04/2020 21:28

I like it for a dog 🐶

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 22/04/2020 21:32

I know a fair few dogs with the name.

Also know a few Luca’s. All boys.

GetTheSprinkles · 22/04/2020 21:33

As a vet, I know A LOT of dogs and cats called Luna so , to me, it's not a human name :/

Ineedabreak19 · 22/04/2020 21:51

I went to school with a Luna and she was lovely. She was called luney tunes & lunatic for short though.

How about Lena as an alternative short name beginning with L.

Chandra is hindi for moon and often used as a girl's name. Selene is also the Greek equivalent and is a very beautiful lunar themed girls name.

toastofthetown · 22/04/2020 22:03

Luna sounds pretty, but it is having a massive spike in popularity. I think it will end up incredibly dated.

user1493494961 · 22/04/2020 22:42

Really dislike these Luna, Lila, Lola type names, lots of them about.

WyfOfBathe · 22/04/2020 22:48

I love it. It was top of our list for DD2.

But we were considering a move to Spain at the time and didn't want to send a child called Moon into a Spanish school!

Mucklowe · 22/04/2020 23:00

Dreadful name.

MysweetAudrina · 22/04/2020 23:04

One of my cats is called Luna.

stickygotstuck · 22/04/2020 23:12

Is it really popular here now? I haven't met any so far. DD is 12.

user those names are nothing alike, I think you just don't like the sound "L" Grin

WyfOfBathe that would have been fine. I know of two Spanish girls called that! I think the meaning is the point.

IHateCoronavirus · 22/04/2020 23:13

I teach two in one class. Both lovely little girls.

Jamiladodger · 22/04/2020 23:29

I honestly really like it. It's sweet without being sugary, succinct and has a beautiful meaning.

It's been quite popular which has put me off it slightly but I feel like that popularity is dying down a bit and right now would be the perfect time to use it.

BilboBercow · 22/04/2020 23:32

I'd presume you were a harry potter fan

toughgetsgoing · 23/04/2020 11:36

loony sorry but the sound is actually nice
