Well now you know what reaction to expect because pretty much everyone on here has said "don't do it" and you have seen some very open truthful opinions. Your own friends and family may hold back a bit, but just know that this is what they will be thinking.

@cstaff I have see some arsehole opinions and some truthful one. It’s my first time posting on here an now I know why there is an awful reputation about people on this site.

@JaneJeffer yes I asked but I I’m not going to let people make assumptions from thin air. I asked for opinions on the name? Not what I know about the country, that I’m being vacuous, not that I’m copying of a celeb I haven’t heard about.

I think it is a hideous choice, and one your daughter will live to regret, not you.

Have you thought about Gaelen instead?

Or at least only use Ireland as a middle name.

1. It's a name for a country not a person.
2. You're from the UK, a country that has at least 1000 years of history of oppression, violence and war against Ireland.

I gave my eldest a name that I like well enough but I don't love, largely because it was one of the few my husband and I agreed on. His reasons for not liking my favourite names were
quite sensible, really, and I think being open to compromise and constructive feedback is important because, as previous posters have said, it's your child that will be living with this name really, not you.

Could be worse, I suppose. You could want to call the child after counties in Ireland. "Fermanagh, come in for your tea!" "Cahrk! Cahrk!! Stop shovin' your finger up your nose, FGS." "Sligoooo, come down offa that slide before you hurt yourself!"

It's actually the full given first name of Al Gore's wife.

Offaly would be a terrific name for any child, especially if your surname is also (or sounds like) an adjective.
