I love Flynn. DH really liked it for DS2, he said it sounded 'swashbuckling' Grin. We ended up going for something else in the end though but still both really liked it.

pictish · 20/04/2020 15:04

I suggested Flynn as a name back when I was pregnant with ds1. Dh asked if we were expecting a pirate.
I still like it though.

Nachonacho · 20/04/2020 15:08

Haha love that Flynn is a bit pirate-like Grin But now the Rafferty fans have arrived I'm completely torn! DH is happy either way, Rafferty was on my shortlist for DC1 but I wasn't brave enough - I have loved it for 4 Years and never met another!

Be brave! You'll only regret it if not. I think Rafferty has a lot more personality as a name whereas Flynn is a little bland.

Nachonacho · 20/04/2020 15:24

@Clemmie83 So tempted! Grin DC1's name ends with an 'ie' so they would have the same sounding ending to their names, do you think that matters? For example: Emily and Amy..

Clemmie83 · 20/04/2020 15:27

@Nachonacho I don't think that matters at all and definitely wouldn't let it put you off!

Magicbabywaves · 20/04/2020 16:05

Rafe?

AnyaMoondial · 20/04/2020 16:47

Flynn

Travellingmamma · 20/04/2020 16:49

Flynn definitely, will work better as an adult Smile

Staffori · 20/04/2020 21:01

I was going to say Flynn until you said Raff for short. Raff is awesome.

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 21/04/2020 09:43

OP thanks for taking my red trousers comment so well! :)

Carouselfish · 21/04/2020 09:45

I like them both - very dashing and old-world film star. I think I prefer Rafferty though because Flynn is potentially too like Finn which is really overused.

Nachonacho · 21/04/2020 09:54

@Carouselfish That's my worry with Flynn, I know how similar they are and it sounds crazy but I'm really not a fan of Finn! It must be in the top 3 most popular names around here!

Rafferty- just really like it and possible nicknames

Clemmie83 · 21/04/2020 10:16

I don't know why but Flynn/Finn always makes me think of a sheepdog! 🙈🤣

Spanielmadness · 21/04/2020 10:21

Rafferty! Raffi and raff are lovely shortenings

LittleNightin · 21/04/2020 10:46

I have a Flynn!!! so Flynn 😊 Only ever met 1 other child called Flynn

Whatsyourflava · 21/04/2020 10:54

I like both names.
I actually think Flynn is more unusual and special sounding than Rafferty. I don’t reallly connect Fin and Flynn for some reason.
And whilst Rafferty itself is fairly rare, there’s loads of top 100 boys names beginning with R and Rafferty kind of blends in with all them to me. (Reuben Ronnie Rory Ralph Roman Rupert.... etc etc). Especially when it’s shortened to Raff or whatever. It sounds very different to our generation, but I think it could sound a bit same-y to the next. Still like it though and think you have a hard decision on your hands 🤣 come back and update us

What’s DC1 name

BuyorRent · 23/04/2020 14:10

Love love love Rafferty! And think Raffy is such a cool nickname. If I ever had another boy it would be my top choice

MamaGothel · 23/04/2020 22:54

I like Flynn, I think it sounds a lot fresher and more modern

Savoretti · 23/04/2020 23:05

Raff is very popular round here I love it but it’s becomes everyone’s ‘trendy’ name.
And Flynn is so unusual, absolutely love it....

GertiMJN · 23/04/2020 23:10

Oh I love Rafferty! Go for it OP.

raindrop83 · 30/04/2020 06:27

Absolutely love the name Rafferty!

Mums4life00 · 30/04/2020 06:31

Rafferty!! 100%

LooseyGoosey · 30/04/2020 13:19

I like Rafferty, the red trouser connotations are real though. I think of Flynn as a surfer boy.
