Currently 23 weeks so lots of time to decide, but I'm getting impatient for a decision. Thoughts on our list so far? And any further suggestions? The two frontrunners so far are Caroline and Francesca, but I'm not 100% sold on either of them. We like classic, strong names.

Caroline
Francesca
Eleanor
Alice
Isobel (this would be my top pick, except I hate the nn Izzy)
Georgina
Catherine
Emma

Names I like but DH doesn't
Esther (Tess)
Esme
Imogen
Emily
Penelope
Matilda
Adelaide
Althea (Thea)

Names DH likes that I don't
Jessica
Rachel

These are all lovely names. I think you have to cross off the ones that only one of you likes, you have to both like the name.

I like Alice best from your list, but they're all good names.

I like Georgia better than Gerogina and prefer Katherine with a K because it lends itself to Kitty or Kate/Katie better. Prefer Emily to Emma.

Isobel is lovely, but too popular for me.

Caroline is nice and really underused. I don't think I've ever met a child Caroline before.

Francesca is lovely too and I like Frankie a lot.

It's just a great list op.

Other suggestions:

Alexandra
Elizabeth
Phoebe
Florence
Maeve
Heidi
Jemima
Coralie
Anastasia
Beatrice
Annabelle

Ooh, I really like Caroline. It feels so nice as your mouth forms the word. It’s really unusual these days too, but a well established name. Francesca is nice too, but they are ten a penny at the moment.

Isobel nn Belle?

AnyaMoondial · 19/04/2020 18:08

I absolutely love Caroline. It seems a strong and happy name to me.

daisypond · 19/04/2020 18:17

Caroline is my preferred one, though there are good names all round. It’s unusual these days, but strong - doesn’t end in that cutesy -ie ending. Carrie or Caro are good short forms.

heroineinahalfshell · 19/04/2020 19:04

@bridgetreilly I've always dreamed of a little Isobel nn Bel, I just don't think you can guarantee a nn and Izzy is so much more common! Also DH likes it but its not his fave.

It's swaying me that so many of you like Caroline - it's defo the top choice at the moment and we both love all the nn's - I prefer Carrie and Caro and DH likes Carly. I'm just not sure I love, love it if that makes sense.

Carrie is a gorgeous nn
I feel the same way re Caroline - it's underused atm and doesn't have the common ie y a ia ending and is an old school classic which makes it appealing but it feels a bit dated to me. I think of a 90s school receptionist. I am fond of Carrie though.

How about:
Lucy
Florence
Audrey
Susanna

I do also love Francesca from your list too.

Good luck!

midnightstar66 · 19/04/2020 19:11

I have an isabella and tried to nn Bella, it worked for a few years but now she's Izzie - suits her to be honest though. I really love Francesca.

MrsP2015 · 19/04/2020 19:38

Love Francesca

Lexijayde44 · 19/04/2020 22:27

I like Eleanor, Emma or Isobel

Perhaps Catherine in the middle of Isobel too.

I don't like Caroline for 2020. It doesn't suit a baby when I picture it in my mind. It reminds me of 50+ year olds. Just my opinion though and not relevant!

Francesca Is nice too.

IVflytrap · 19/04/2020 23:24

I really love Caroline, although it does seem to get a mixed reception. I like the Caro shortening best, although Carrie or Carly is nice too (sorry, no help!) I also love Esther, so it's a shame your DH doesn't, imo.

I don't think it's a huge deal if a name doesn't suit a baby, as they're only a baby for a tiny portion of their lives, and an adult for most of it. Other suggestions:

Jemima
Rebecca
Abigail
Ariane
Bridget
Ruth
Natalia
Cordelia
Louisa
Rosalind
Naomi

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/04/2020 23:32

I’ve never met a Caroline I didn’t like. It needs using, and I like a name with many nickname options.

jfoyo26 · 19/04/2020 23:37

Louise - strong and classic. Feel like it is a good fit between the names you both like.

Carouselfish · 19/04/2020 23:39

I like Penelope and Mathilda. Caroline is ok and does have nice NN.

Astronica · 20/04/2020 00:37

I like all your list. I can see why it's so hard. Caroline is good and I particularly like nn Caro. I think Georgina, Eleanor and Francesca are my favourites from your shared list, but really all good.

123Dancewithme · 20/04/2020 00:37

Caroline is great. I like Callie as a nn.

TenThousandSpoons0 · 20/04/2020 00:49

I also love the nicknames Caro and Carrie, but haven’t been sold on Caroline so far. Carys is one of our top choices - same nicknames plus also Cass/Caz. Possibly doesn’t fit that well w your other names but thought I would suggest it anyway! Also like Francesca, Isobel, Catherine.

TenThousandSpoons0 · 20/04/2020 00:49

Oh and Alexandra

alexdgr8 · 20/04/2020 00:55

was just thinking yesterday what a fine name caroline is.

5LeafPenguin · 20/04/2020 01:02

I like Caroline (and also Carolyn.) best out of your list, love Carrie as a short version.
