Louis or Luca?

First baby is due in 14 weeks and we have whittled down to two names (we think!)

Louis and Luca.

We both really love Luca but neither of us have any Italian heritage although not sure if that matters?

Which would you pick?

Lucas?

Louis over Luca.

daisypond · 14/04/2020 10:57

Louis. Or Luke or Lucas or Lucien etc. Not Luca.

Whatsyourflava · 14/04/2020 11:08

Love both. It really doesn’t matter about Italian heritage, it’s become fairly mainstream name now. Gorgeous

Cocobean30 · 14/04/2020 11:10

I prefer luca, I think it sounds nicer

TobyeBella · 14/04/2020 11:11

Louis

hellosunshine5 · 14/04/2020 11:11

I love both of these names!

I think I’d go with Luca personally.

I know of a ‘Luka’ who has no Italian heritage, if that spelling is an option for you Smile

GetTheSprinkles · 14/04/2020 11:13

Love both and Louis was our 2nd choice behind the name we went for for our DS (Leo).
The one think that put me off with Louis was that people may shorten it to 'Loo'.
I know a Luca who has purely English heritage and never thought it was strange

DoctorBambino · 14/04/2020 11:14

Luca is lovely go for that who cares about heritage.

LarkDescending · 14/04/2020 11:34

100% Louis over Luca for me. But then I love Louis and really don’t like Luca - much prefer Luke or Lucas.

NuffSaidSam · 14/04/2020 11:42

Go for Luca if you like that best. It doesn't matter about the Italian heritage thing.

toastofthetown · 14/04/2020 11:44

I prefer Louis, but I don’t think that lack of Italian heritage is reason to avoid Luca. It’s a popular, mainstream name now.

CruCru · 14/04/2020 11:49

How would you pronounce Louis? Loo-ey or Lewis? Will it irritate you if people pronounce it the other way?

TheCanterburyWhales · 14/04/2020 17:53

Lucas is lovely.
Luke is nice, but there are thousands of them
Don't like Louis/Lewis (one is faux posh, the other is not) or Luca

GingerSunday · 14/04/2020 17:59

Thanks everyone - seems like a pretty split opinion which is exactly how I feel on both names 😂 Luca is a bit of a marmite it seems people either think it's lovely or don't like it at all. I do like Lucas but not as much as Luca.

Louis would be pronounced Loo-ee I hadn't really thought about it getting mixed up with Lewis!

Might have to just be a coin toss!!

Louis. I also prefer Lucas and Luke to Luca though.

Definitely don't let not having an Italian connection put you off Luca. If you like it most you should go for it!

Dimosaur · 14/04/2020 22:18

Louis

Enough4me · 14/04/2020 22:20

Luca

Meltedwellie · 14/04/2020 22:22

I love both of those, sorry not much help in choosing.

Cosyblanky · 14/04/2020 22:30

Please don't choose Lucas it rhymes with mucus

Honeyroar · 14/04/2020 22:32

I love the name Luca. Hate Lucas! Sounds like a car garage. I’m probably biased as I lived in the Italian town of Lucca.

Staffori · 14/04/2020 22:37

Luca for me though I like both.

In response to Cosyblanky, I'm tempted to say Louis rhymes with 'pooey', the point being that I'm sure just about every name rhymes with something unpleasant if we overthink it and we really shouldn't let that put us off names we like. Wink

snackarella · 14/04/2020 22:50

My little boy is called Luca and I Love it

Wheresthebiffer2 · 14/04/2020 23:51

Louis definitely gets pronounced (mistakenly) as Lewis sometimes. Or even mistaken for LOUISE, and expect the person to be a girl.

Astronica · 14/04/2020 23:57

I prefer Louis.

Mucklowe · 15/04/2020 08:18

Louis.

Luca sounds like a girl's name, or like a bodily fluid.
