Our little boy is due in August 😊. I think our top contender for his name at the moment is Rory, but we also like the names:

Miles
Alfie
Barney
Arthur
Harry

What are your thoughts?

Rory
Miles
Alfie
Barney
Arthur
Harry

Are all lovely names - congratulations
I’d probably go with Barnaby as the full name

Don't like Alfie but the rest are fine. I think I'd pick Miles or Barney.

Treanor · 11/04/2020 17:13

Miles is my favourite

Love Miles and Barney!

SnowdropFox · 11/04/2020 17:16

Rory is my favourite closely followed by Miles.

cptartapp · 11/04/2020 17:21

I like Harry and Rory but not the others. Definitely not Alfie.

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 11/04/2020 17:22

I love all of them except Alfie. You've got a lovely list Smile

Ellmau · 11/04/2020 17:24

Rory and Miles are my favourites.

I like Rory a lot. Never got the love for Miles and I don't think Barney is the greatest for a grown man. Totally personal ofc, but Barney has always been a comedy name for me (you know when you name a pet something daft or create a character for a silly story, bit of a bumbling fool or a put-upon dweeb).

MummaSt · 11/04/2020 18:50

Barney was DH’s addition. I like it but I do wonder if it would suit a teenager and adult as much as it would a little boy. I do think it’s cute though.

Alfie or Harry.

Miles is a bit try-hard and Barney sounds like an enthusiastic labrador.

Arthur is okay ish but reminds me of an old grey man in a beige car coat.

Carouselfish · 11/04/2020 19:06

In order

Arthur
Rory
Miles

Buttercup54321 · 12/04/2020 01:17

Henry
Hugh
Ryan
Marcus
Vincent
Joshua

I'm not fond of Rory as I find the double R hard to pronounce and a bit of a mouthful.

Miles - love this name, it reminds me of Miles Vorkosigan... Awesome books. Too bad it doesn't have any nicknames.

Alfie - sorry, I hate diminutive used instead of proper names so I can't give an unbiased opinion.

Barney - same. For what it's worth I don't like Barnaby, sounds like an old man's name to me.

Arthur - I like it, reminds me of the Arthurian legend.

Harry - I don't hate it but people will think of Harry Potter/Prince Harry I guess...

Orphlids · 12/04/2020 09:21

I agree with Marphise that Rory is difficult to pronounce. My friend has a son called Rory, and every time I say it, I have to mentally prepare in advance. I don’t have a speech impediment, but there are a great many people who can’t say r’s, and if your baby turned out to be one of them, it could be a bit of a disaster.

I’m afraid I (and I suspect plenty of others) think of Alfie as a naughty boy name... shaved head, teaching all the other kids at school the f-word, mum has tattoos on her breasts. Okay, bit of an exaggeration, but you get the picture. Also it’s SO overused. Every other kid seems to be called Alfie.

Barney is pleasant sounding, but it lacks sex appeal. I wouldn’t want to be a man called Barney. It’s more farmhand than James Bond.

Arthur and Harry are perfectly acceptable, if a little dull (sorry).

Miles is the best. Congratulations, and good luck!

Miles - I know it's a legit name, but to me it just reminds me of measurements
Arthur - great, but currently quite popular
Barney - too nicknamey, although Barnaby is great
Alfie - too twee, insubstantial and overdone for me, sorry
Harry - is a nickname for Henry but again is far too popular for my liking

Rory is fabulous though! I like your first instincts! Grin

I love Barney or Arthur Smile
