Hi

We found out yesterday that our second child is a boy. He's due in a few months. We have a daughter called Cora which we love and always receive positive feedback on.

We're struggling with boys names. We quite like these...but there's not one that we love, yet.

What are your views? Which do you prefer, if any? Do you have any other suggestions?

We like:

Luca (we don't have any Italian heritage though?)

Wilf (but not so keen on Wilfred tbh)

Freddie (too popular? )

Rufus (like Roo for short)

Really struggling!!

Thanks Smile

BaroleCaskin · 11/04/2020 09:33

I love Rufus and Luca.

I'm assuming you didn't like Luke as the anglicised version, but I see no reason to not use Luca/Lucas even if you don't have Italian heritage.

Arlo has sprung to mind for you as an alternative name.

Good luck with the name hunt! I'm sure you'll find a name you both love.

YappityYapYap · 11/04/2020 09:51

I like Freddie the best out of those names

Astronica · 11/04/2020 10:06
  1. Rufus
  2. Wilf
BabynameKiwi · 11/04/2020 10:25

I like Rufus a lot with Cora.

What about?
Willoughby, Evander, Ambrose, Hector, Barnaby, Sydney and Walter

Standrewsschool · 11/04/2020 10:27

Willoughby is a great name!

Whatsyourflava · 11/04/2020 13:01

Wilf Luca or Freddie are all lovely

AmelieTaylor · 11/04/2020 13:05

Congratulations!!

I prefer Freddie from your list
I don't think Cora & Luca are great together.

The first thing that came to mind was Dylan (which is odd as it's not a name I'd normally go for)

Charlie works too

LarkDescending · 11/04/2020 14:06

Rufus is good with Cora. How about Rupert?

finallychangedmyusername · 11/04/2020 15:26

Rufus is lovely and matches Cora well.

sunsetandcocktails · 11/04/2020 18:36

Thanks all! Interesting that Rufus is liked so far. I was worried it's considered a dogs name...

Love Willoughby! My OH wouldn't entertain it though. And our surname is pretty long so probs wouldn't work

Hadn't considered that Luca is similar to Cora, but you're right. It's a bit samey

Love Cora!!

Barnaby
Rufus
Ralph
Rupert
Ned (Edward)

Carouselfish · 11/04/2020 19:12

Cora and Zack
Cora and Marc
Cora and Sean

Emthebaker · 11/04/2020 20:06

Wilf is my fave - such a great name and it goes well with Cora!

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/04/2020 21:21

Luca - I like Luca though prefer Lucas

Wilf - I really like Wilf, don't mind Wilfred

Freddie - I dislike, but you could use Wilfred and call him both Wilf and Freddie. I like Frederick and find it very handsome just think Freddie sounds whiny.

Rufus - love. It was our boys name if DD2 had been a boy

Other names on our shortlist were:
Nathaniel
Tobias
Ezra

A few other suggestions you might like:

Alec
Walt
Kit - short for Christopher or Christian

phoenixrosehere · 11/04/2020 21:31

I love Luca, but with Cora, Lucas sounds better.

Adelais · 11/04/2020 22:38

I have a Cora and our second child was going to be Rufus or Casper if a boy though we had another girl. I also liked Miles, Jago and Otis.

Bouncingbelle · 12/04/2020 02:08

Love Freddie & like Rufus. What about Ruaridh (like brewery but without the B!).

Also think Cora goes well with:
Ethan
Harvey
Timothy

mathanxiety · 12/04/2020 03:12

I like Rufus best from your list, followed by Freddie as long as Frederick is on the BC.

Suggestions:
Hugo
Jasper
Raphael (Rafe)
Leo
Oscar
Theodore
Barnaby
Edmund
Rowan
Ivo
Myles

BrooHaHa · 12/04/2020 03:46

To my mind:

Luca is too similar to Cora

Rufus is a dog

Wilf is a character from Biff, Chip and Kipper (they do still read them in schools- I teach, which is probably why it rang a bell for me). It also stands for 'What I'm Looking For' which is used for success criteria in some schools (WALT is We Are Learning To- the objective of the lesson). Neither is necessarily a problem, that's just what I think of when I hear Wilf. Also rhymes with MILF. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but it's not a terrible name.

Would Lucus be any good?
