To be anxious about naming babies

Is it just me who gets anxious and overwhelmed at the thought of naming babies, we won’t be having another child for at least 18 months but the thought of picking the name for someone which will they will have for the rest of their life absolutely terrifies me, and I’ve already done it twice!

Does seem an odd thing to be anxious about, to me.
It should be a joyful time - planning for life with a new baby together.

I get that it's a big deal and that it can be daunting sifting through a million names to find some that you like then trying to figure out whether it's "right" or not but to be terrified and over whelmed is quite a strong reaction particularly if your already have children!

As much as we like to think it is, it's really not that big of a deal. You get 9 months to think about it, a year to make sure you're happy with it then another 15 for the kids to decide if they like it before being able to choose for themselves.

In the meantime they can make up any old nickname too so it's really not for life at all of you think about it!

Are you substituting the anxiety you have over things you can't control for something you can? Might think about the underlying stress.

Only on this site would people pathologise it.

It's perfectly normal to be worried about naming a child. It's a big decision, you may get a lot of judgement for it, and it's a name that your child will have for the rest of their life so you want to pick something they'll like. As long as you don't pick something hideous, you'll be fine.

I agree with @Bezalelle that people on here are gonna make it seem like a big deal, when really it's not. It's totally understandable.

I think it’s a big deal, particularly when you have to find a compromise with another person!

However I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who I’ve thought “you don’t suit that name”. So that takes the pressure off, they just are that name.
