I love it!

Has it ever gone away?

Florabelles · 09/04/2020 11:41

I've not heard it used on babies for a long long time. I think it would be adorable on a little boy and is suitable for an adult too

My toddlers best friend is a gene.

I love it. A few celebrities have Gene's so I'm sure it will become more widely used.

PipGirl404 · 09/04/2020 11:44

I can't get Amy Schumer's kids "name" out my head when I hear Gene.

Gene Attell Fischer

Genital fissure...

I'm sure that isn't his actual name, but still...

Florabelles · 09/04/2020 11:45

@ZebraKid71 aw that's lovely! I imagine they are complimented on the name a lot!

It was what I wanted to call my DS but couldn't get DH onboard. I still look at him & think he's a Gene

RedRec · 09/04/2020 11:49

Absolutely love it.

neighbourhoodwitch · 09/04/2020 11:50

Love it

Pieceofpurplesky · 09/04/2020 11:54

It's lovely and has a cool, retro sound to it. And I have never taught one (20 years teaching in schools with 1000+)

ofwarren · 09/04/2020 11:56

I'd worry that people would think he was called Jean.
I do like Jean for a girl though.
That's his you pronounce it isn't it? Rhyming with bean?

Ellmau · 09/04/2020 12:26

Feels a bit American. Originally short for Eugene I think.

Thoroflo · 09/04/2020 12:26

I have a year and a half old Gene. We get a lot of blank looks when we tell people his name, but also a LOT of love for it. Only one person has asked if he’s a girl “J-E-A-N?!”.

He’s number 4 and the other kids and their friends haven’t batted an eyelid at it. And he has some great famous namesakes. It did take us a few days to pluck up the courage to actually use it when he was born though, we didn’t think we were brave enough 😄.

We’ve had a hard time picking a name for the new baby on the way because I feel like nothing will be as cool as Gene 😂

Jossina · 09/04/2020 15:52

As a nickname for Eugene it's nice.

SpratsOnParade · 09/04/2020 15:53

It's an incredibly ugly name.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 09/04/2020 17:09

Doesn't one of the Gallagher brothers have a son called gene?

DramaAlpaca · 09/04/2020 17:12

It's an ugly diminutive of an even uglier name - Eugene.

Greenvilla · 09/04/2020 17:15

God awful

SherlocksDeerstalker · 09/04/2020 17:16

I love it. It’s one of my daughters names.

MikeUniformMike · 09/04/2020 20:10

Eugene is a bit too similar to eugenics.

I like Jean for a girl, but I don't like Gene.

babynamelover · 09/04/2020 20:12

Not a big fan. I'm sure it's old enough to be cool though 😊

HedgeHogFoxBadger · 09/04/2020 22:08

I love this!
I have a 13 year old Georgina, never been Georgie but Genie. My nan is Jeannex

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 09/04/2020 22:10

I love Jean fir a girl but not for a boy at all. Its awful.

123Dancewithme · 09/04/2020 22:22

I agree with a pp that it feels quite American.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2020 00:34

I see 'Gene' and think of chromosomes. I wouldn't have expected this name to make a comeback because the word now has such an important meaning beyond just being a name.
