Girls Names

My first post, so here goes....
I have a little boy called Noah. Never asked on any forums or anything as I just fell in love with the name and it felt right.
I had two girls names at the time.
One of the girls names has now been used by someone very close to me. Please don't tell me to still use it anyway, because its her name now. She was pregnant before me, she didn't steal it, I knew she loved the name and it wouldn't feel right for me to use it now too.
The other name I loved for a wee girl is Harper. However, after I had my son and people asked oh what would he have been called if he was a girl, I said the other name and Harper. People didn't seem to react well to Harper.
So I'm really stuck. The only other name I kind of like is Hope. As she is my Hope after a really difficult time. But I've alway worried about virtue names.
Another name that I heard that appealed to me was Primrose. But I'm beginning to think its a bit old fashioned next to Noah.
I have a very uncommon name myself and I didn't like being the only one at school. So I prefer names within the top 100.
If you can help, I would be most grateful. X

I don’t like the sound of Hope, but If it’s significant to you then go for it. It’s by far not the worse or weirdest of names or perhaps use it as middle name.
I can’t abide Primrose though. I really don’t get the hype for this name at all.

I do like the name Harper, but I admit the association with the Beckhams puts me off a bit. I love the name Hope. I know what you mean about virtue names, but I think Hope is a bit of an exception, as it can’t really be a negative thing, as say Chastity could be. I don’t think you need to worry about whether sibling names ‘go’. I don’t really understand the preoccupation with this. But I think Noah and Primrose sound perfectly acceptable together anyway. Congratulations - I’m glad you’ve got some wonderful news after your difficult time.

KarenQuinn · 08/04/2020 14:53

I love my daughter. Little Monzo is my one and only

Whatsyourflava · 08/04/2020 15:16

Harper is gorgeous
Please stick with it - I honestly think you’ll regret it if you don’t.
People maybe only gave you that reaction as you told them Harper is the name you won’t be using. If you’d had a girl and told them “Noah”
Was your boy name I bet a few people would have made negative comments about Noah

Hope I don’t like , don’t like virtue names either

KarenQuinn · 08/04/2020 15:20

What about Monzo?

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 15:47

Noah isn't very modern @OP, it's antediluvian.

Sheffield2000 · 08/04/2020 15:48

Harper is lovely and sounds great next to Noah.
I know exactly what you mean about peoples cold reactions getting into your head. We are 3 weeks away from our daughter arriving and do not have a name we confidently like.
Hope is a lovely name too. I wondered if it may be a 'thing' that some people may think/say 'No Hope' because of ' Noah and Hope'
I really think that children become their names when they are born. If you love Harper then absolutely go for it :)

87Callista · 08/04/2020 16:23

This may be too "out there" for some but how about just Harp?
Hope is inoffensive, safe and sweet. I think Harper is quite popular nowadays I know 2 LOs called Harper.

Some suggestions
Heidi
Briar
Phoebe
Lucy
Summer
Athena
Celeste
Harriet

Congratulations and good luck Smile

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 16:26

nn for Harp?Harpie?

missyB1 · 08/04/2020 16:26

Sorry don’t like Harper even without the Beckham connection (which would be enough to put me off), it’s just too common now.
Hope is a beautiful name and so is Primrose (that was one of my choices).

87Callista · 08/04/2020 16:32

@MikeUniformMike
I did think that lol. There's a podcast I enjoy called Brutally Honest by Karlie Hustle, she's got a sweet, adorable witty kid called Harp who she sometimes features and the name has grown on me, I think it's a great name, but I totally get that the harpie thing is enough to put some people off.

auntayen · 08/04/2020 16:33

I think if you like Noah you like simple names and it is a Hebrew name that means comfort so what about Dove to go with Noah but not to be to similar. How does Dove Primrose sound I like it but this is your daughter so you decide?

Blursula · 08/04/2020 18:48

I think Harper is lovely OP. I do like Hope but I agree with pp about ‘Noah and Hope’ sounding a little like ‘no hope.’

Harper may naturally have the nn Harp from friends.

As for Harp becoming ‘Harpie’ it’s a one syllable name so unlikely. You don’t get people called Mark being called Markie, do you?

Blursula · 08/04/2020 18:50

Oh and I LOVE primrose - but it may likely get shortened to Prim. I think it’s lovely as a middle name though. Go with your gut and don’t worry if nothing is screaming ‘the one’ just yet

noahsmum256 · 08/04/2020 19:24

My heart is telling me Harper ❤
This thread has been reassuring as there have been more positive comments than I thought.
Thank you all.

I don’t like Harper. It’s riding off the back of the Beckhams and is now somewhat naff. Noah is a solid Biblical name, and Harper is such a different style. Hope is nice, but if you don’t like virtue names there’s no point considering it. Primrose is nice and I like its meaning - prima rosa- first rose.

MikeUniformMike · 08/04/2020 20:25

Primrose has more nn possibilities - Posy, Rose, Rosie.

Harper is a no from me. It's a surname.

glitterbiscuits · 08/04/2020 20:34

Hope is classic, elegant, goes well with Noah.

Harper is a surname. I don't understand why people use it as a girls name. Even Harper Lees real name was Nelle. She didn't use Harper.

pilates · 08/04/2020 20:37

I think Hope goes better with Noah, really dislike Harper. Primrose is lovely.

userabcname · 08/04/2020 20:44

If you like Harper then go for Harper! I do like Hope too.

babynamelover · 08/04/2020 22:45

I personally don't like Harper it's so harsh for a girl and Noah is so soft and sweet. Hope would be lovely as middle 😃.

I don't like Harper. Hope is okay but prefer it as a middle name, and though I do love Primrose it sounds like you'd prefer a more regularly used name that fits in, so it may not be for you. Primrose is quite different and will draw attention.

I like the suggestions of Phoebe, Lucy, Summer, Celeste, Lily, Sophie, Willow, Maisie and Zoe for you and great idea to use Hope as a middle name.

Harper is a beautiful name, it doesn't matter how others react or feel about it, it matters how you do.

Mumma4262 · 09/04/2020 06:07

Harper isn’t usually my sort of name but I think it goes lovely with Noah.

You say Hope would be lovely because you went through a difficult time, it would also be lovely because she would be your bit of hope after all this going on in the world right now. Sounds like hope would have a lovely meaning. 💗
