Hi all! Me again 🙊

I'm going to keep these threads coming until we find a baby name unfortunately 😅

Thoughts on the name Oria (for a girl!)

I like asking for an outsiders opinion as it highlights points about the name myself & hubby wouldn't have thought of!

Thanks again!! ☺️

Sounds like an oral hygiene product, possibly a mouthwash or a floss.

BiggerBoat1 · 08/04/2020 11:26

No. Too much like Oreo.

I like Orla.

Isn't Aurea that brown bit round your nipples?

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 08/04/2020 11:34

It's not one I've come across before, so to me it looks like a typo of Orla I'm afraid. Agree with pp it is also a bit too much like Oreos.

AlunWynsKnee · 08/04/2020 11:38

I read it as Orla too. That's a lifetime of correcting people.

ElsieDear · 08/04/2020 11:39

My grandma is called Auria and I think I prefer that spelling but I love the name. I had two boys though!

Alarae · 08/04/2020 11:51

My first though was "is that a name?"

Agree with PP it sounds like a mash up of Aria and Orla. Both names which are normally considered together, so it's almost like you couldn't decide between them.

Bit like Renesmee.

Pinkypink · 08/04/2020 12:08

There is a hebrew name Oriya -which means my light of Gd or Gd is my light

MrsBungle · 08/04/2020 12:33

Not keen. I too thought it was Orla at first. Someone up thread mentioned Oriana which is lovely.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 08/04/2020 12:43

I like the idea of the name but not knowing how to pronounce it is putting me off

1forsorrow · 08/04/2020 12:45

i think people will misread it as Orla Yes I did. Orla is a lovely name. Not so sure about Oria.

diddlediddle · 08/04/2020 12:51

As pps have said my first thought was oral or Oreo. At best it seems a made up version of aria. Back to the drawing board...

pilates · 08/04/2020 12:55

Whoops I misread, thought it was Orla which I really like, not so keen on Oria

CuppaZa · 08/04/2020 13:00

Oral...Shock
Aria is much nicer

Lollygaggles · 08/04/2020 13:02

I think it sounds like a medical condition, sorry

DwayneBenzie · 08/04/2020 13:07

You want to name the kid after your ear ?

HKCLARK · 08/04/2020 14:05

Gosh you're a harsh bunch! 😅

Okay noted. Oreo & oral sex.

We'll be scrapping this name!

But just to clarify, it isn't a made up name...it's Italian.

Thanks all 🙉

I thought it was Orla. Every day for a lifetime. Just No.

Pinkblueberry · 08/04/2020 15:45

To be fair, in an Italian accent that probably sounds quite nice. Not quite so good in English.

Orphlids · 10/04/2020 10:07

Years ago, I met a baby named Orly, a variant on Orla. I thought that was quite nice. Might be an option for you, if Orla is too popular?

Petiolaris · 10/04/2020 10:15

At first glance I read Orla. Which is lovely! I think everyone will make that mistake.

phoenixrosehere · 10/04/2020 10:21

I think it’s beautiful.

Some of the things that people have said never came to mind.

Bezalelle · 10/04/2020 10:49

Sounds like a brand of extra-strong mouthwash!

LotusClover · 10/04/2020 11:10

When I saw the name Oria I didn't automatically think of oral. If anything, surely the name Orla is closer to oral..?

If you like it OP, go for it.

Agree. I thought of Aria, music term.
