Girls
Adelaide
Claudia/Claude (yes for a girl)
Evangeline
Marina
Rowena

Boys
Amos
August
Gabriel
Lucien
Wilbur

I really like Adelaide, Claudia (not Claude) and Evangeline. Marina and Rowena sound a little... middle aged to my ears.

Gabriel, Lucien and Wilbur are all super. Quite like August. Not so keen on Amos, sounds quite elderly. But you really mustn’t base your choice on the opinions of others - you will find people who hate all your choices. Who cares what we think? Choose something you truly love, or you’ll always regret it.

I love Claudia and Marina - both gorgeous, easy to pronounce and you don’t come across many.
Also love Gabriel and Wilbur - would have seriously considered both for DS but didn’t go with our surname. Also I don’t really like that Wilbur will just become Will as I think it’s a lovely name in full!

I love Adelaide, Claudia and Rowena. All favourites of mine. They feel substantial, strong, feminine, distinctive and full of history, but not over-used. I also love Claude (used in France for a girl's name I believe) and Claudie as nns. Hard-pressed to pick a favourite of those 3 - possibly Rowena as the least expected, but I'd love to meet a little one of any of these.

I don't mind Marina and Evangeline - just don't love them like the others. Evangeline is very much a current name in that the nn Evie is everywhere - on its own and for names such as Evelyn, Eva and Evangeline.

I love August from your boy list but not so keen on the others. Wilbur is okay but I prefer other Will names - Wilfred, William, Wilken, Willem, Gwyllim. Gabriel is pronounced several different ways, and just feels religious to me. I just hear Lucy with Lucien, though I do love girl's name Lucienne. Amos is one of a style like Ezekiel and Jonas etc that doesn't appeal to me and feels rather heavy, though I think Amos is better than the usual of that style - Elijah, Noah etc.

toastofthetown · 07/04/2020 09:25

Adelaide - really like it
Claudia/Claude (yes for a girl) - love Claudia, the less said about Claude the better...
Evangeline - it's fine, but it always seems a bit much for me though
Marina - love Marina, it would be my number one choice
Rowena - love it again, you would have to choose between Marina and Rowena unless you wanted rhyming sisters!

Amos - I like Amos, it's nice and soft sounding
August - love, my favourite of your boys' picks
Gabriel - I like Gabriel, but it's in the top 100 and rising, so depends how unusual you would like. Gabe is a cute shortening
Lucien - really like Lucien, it's unusual, but also familiar enough not to be bizarre
Wilbur - I think it's cute - but obvious shortening of Will would be combined with the very popular William

bridgetreilly · 07/04/2020 09:34

Claudia and Evangeline are lovely.

I don't really like any of your boy names, but especially not August or Lucien.

TheVanguardSix · 07/04/2020 09:35

Marina and Gabriel.

Ginandplatonic · 07/04/2020 10:54

I love all of your girl names, except Evangeline which I find a bit too flowery. Can’t choose between the others, really like them all.

Favourite of your boy names is Lucien - I love it. Gabriel is fine, not so keen on the others.

LotusClover · 07/04/2020 11:05

GIRLS
Adelaide - beautiful, my favourite of your girls names.
Claudia - nice, not keen on Claude though.
Evangeline - too fancy.
Marina - straight away makes me think of the singer, still a lovely name though.
Rowena - not a fan of this one.

BOYS
Amos - don't like sorry.
August - lovely, but PLEASE only call your son this if he is actually born in August.
Gabriel - Like this one a lot, my favourite of your boys names.
Lucien - don't like, sounds a bit pretentious.
Wilbur - hideous.

userabcname · 07/04/2020 11:08

I probably like Adelaide best of your girls names although I'm not massively keen on any of them (sorry). I love August for a boy and I like Gabriel and Wilbur too.

Whatsyourflava · 07/04/2020 11:09

Claudia is a nice girls’ name
All your names are ok apart from Rowena because of “weaner” sound strength the end. I know someone with this name and they were constantly teased and asked if they had a “weaner” (aka willy). Kids still use this word so I’d be nervous using this name

For boys I love August and Gabriel best but also like Wilbur x

Whatsyourflava · 07/04/2020 11:10
  • Weina
MikeUniformMike · 07/04/2020 11:13

Adelaide - No
Claudia/Claude (yes for a girl) - Claudine is lovely
Evangeline - no
Marina - yes
Rowena - lovely. Rowella is too.

Amos - ok
August - Month or Au-GUST
Gabriel - no
Lucien - nn Lucy? No
Wilbur - great for a border terrier

Whatsyourflava · 07/04/2020 11:14
  • Wiener !! Sorry
daisypond · 07/04/2020 11:16

I like Claudia, Marina, Rowena
Gabriel, Lucien and August.

NeedToKnow101 · 07/04/2020 11:26

Claudia / Claude I love
Gabriel and Lucien I like

All the rest I don't really like.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/04/2020 11:29

Adelaide. Okay. I don’t like or dislike it.
Claudia. Delicious. I’ve not heard that in years.
Evangeline. Not unless you’re upper middle class. Plus she could become Evie which would lower the tone of the name.
Marina. No. Maria is far nicer. Marina seems very harsh to me
Rowena. No

Amos. No
August. It might be nice as a middle name. If the month is significant to you.
Lucien. I love this. Although Lucian (Loo-shun) is nicer
Gabriel. My boy will be a Gabriel. It’s not uncommon though. I’m falling over them.
Wilbur. Is just beyond adorable.

Whoareyoudududu · 07/04/2020 11:31

I only like Claudia, not keen on any of the boys names.

AdaColeman · 07/04/2020 11:34

Rowena is my favourite from your list.
I also like Adelaide and Claude, (I know a lovely lady called Claude).
I’m not keen on Marina or Claudia and think Evangeline is a bit “burlesque dancer” for my taste.

I quite like Lucien and August, though I prefer Augustus. I’m not keen on the rest of your list, and Wilbur is my least favourite.

Autumna · 07/04/2020 14:49

Such a strong list! My favourites are Adelaide, Marina, August and Gabriel Smile

CoddledAsAMommet · 07/04/2020 14:56

I love Claude for a girl. Also like Marina and Rowena, they're names that can take you through to adulthood.
I like all your boys names except Amos, which is frumpy. Have you considered Linus, as that seems to go with the others you like.
Claude gets my vote though.

17caterpillars1mouse · 07/04/2020 20:07

Adelaide - love it, I find it much nicer than Ada which is really popular in my area. I like both Addie and Laidy as nn. It's just a lovely name

Claudia/Claude (yes for a girl) - dislike both

Evangeline - pretty but would be shortened to Eva / Evie or Angel all of which I dislike

Marina - not a fan

Rowena - it's OK but not a favourite

Amos - love it
August - I like it, like Auggie as a nn. Not so keen on Gus
Gabriel - I like it in theory
Lucien - love it but pronunciation issues I imagine
Wilbur - I like it for a child but not sure I'd like to be a teenage Wilbur

Jossina · 07/04/2020 22:48

Girls
Adelaide Love it
Claudia/Claude (yes for a girl) Prefer Claudia
Evangeline Somehow don't like it, but don't know exactly why
Marina: Nice, especially if you like water and boats
Rowena: Always a favourite, love it.

Boys
Amos: Nice, needs to be more popular
August: Prefer Augustus
Gabriel: Nice
Lucien: Prefer Lucian
Wilbur: Can't help but think of a pig

NuffSaidSam · 07/04/2020 22:56

In order:

  1. Evangeline - lovely
  2. Adelaide - I like it, but not keen on place names generally.
  3. Rowena
  4. Marina - that's where boats live.
  5. Claudia/Claude - I hate this name, for no good reason. I just hate it.
  1. Amos - sweet, not overly used.
  2. Gabriel - not my taste really, but perfectly nice name
  3. Wilbur - sweet for a baby and can be Wil when he's a cool teen.
  4. August - nice sound to it, but not keen on month names (although I love April for some reason).
  5. Lucien - it's too close to Lucifer for me.
IVflytrap · 07/04/2020 23:01

Adelaide: Love
Claudia/Claude (yes for a girl): both OK. Claudia feels quite classy and grown up. Claude might be a hard name for a girl to have in the UK.
Evangeline: Not that keen
Marina: Like
Rowena: Like. Prefer Rowan or Rowenna, though.

Boys
Amos: It's OK
August: I never know whether to pronounce it like the month or not.
Gabriel: Nice.
Lucien: Not that keen. Lucian is slightly better. Lucas or Luca even more so.
Wilbur: Not that keen. Better than Wilfred or Wilf, though

Charlotteli · 07/04/2020 23:06
