I mean with just one fancy name (if needs must) you could think he was maybe named after an older relative or something but adding a middle name too would just make it sound...poncy.

I would probably go with a shorter middle name rather than a long one, no longer than 2 syllables. Alternatively, are there any family names you like or something that's particularly meaningful to you? As someone with a generic 80s girls middle name that everyone had, I think it would nice to have a name with some meaning to it, whether it's one your parents liked from a book or film, or something connecting you to your wider family.
