Eve or Anya?

LotusClover · 31/03/2020 15:38

DD1's name is Cara. For DD2 we are torn between Eve and Anya.

We like the elegance and simplicity of Eve, and it ages well - it doesn't sound immature nor old fashioned. However, we know that similar names such as Evie, Eva, Ava, etc, are very popular.

Anya is very pretty and not massively popular, but we worry that it won't age as well.

Which is better?
Cara & Eve?
Or Cara & Anya?

Thank you :)

Anya

sugarcherry · 31/03/2020 18:12

Anya - just so elegant

emilybrontescorsett · 31/03/2020 18:25

I like both but think Eve will stand the test of time more.
Also I wouldn't use Anya if your surname is a think and it would make it for example A Baker.

sibbys · 31/03/2020 18:27

Eve!

SquigglePigs · 31/03/2020 18:31

Love Anya.

Eve is nice and elegant but it's pretty guaranteed she'll be Evie in school!

user1493494961 · 31/03/2020 19:17

Anya is beautiful, Eve's are everywhere.

MikeUniformMike · 31/03/2020 19:56

Eve is nice but with the Evies, Evas, Avas and Evelyns, I'd give it a miss. Anya seems a bit drippy - I much prefer Anna, as I feel it's a pretty and strong name.

Cara and Anna.

NoSauce · 31/03/2020 22:13

Eve. I find Anya quite harsh sounding. I love Anna though.

123Dancewithme · 31/03/2020 23:22

Anya, but I agree Anna is nicer.

Astronica · 01/04/2020 00:28

Both nice names, but I prefer Anya. I can't see why it wouldn't 'age well'?

Bluesponge · 01/04/2020 15:08

Absolutely love Anya, I think it does age quite well my older sister is called Anya and she’s 32

MikeUniformMike · 02/04/2020 08:29

I know two Anyas, both adults (elderly and 20s). It might be more popular or may be dated if you are east european - I have no idea, but at least it is likely to be less overused than Eve. Having said that, i can think of one adult Eve and one elderly Eva, and many young adult Evies and Ewas.

The currently trendy names seem to have lots of vowels, and my preference is for stronger sounding names.

Allthebears · 02/04/2020 10:07

Absolutely love the name Anya! Eve is nice too but very, very popular at the moment.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 02/04/2020 10:10

I really like Eve, though you are right about Evie/Ava etc being super popular. I expect people would try to call your DD Evie even if you have named her Eve.

CaffiSaliMali · 02/04/2020 10:41

I really like Anya. I also like Anneka and Anneliese. Anna is also gorgeous and very timeless and international. I prefer Anya though.

Eve is lovely, but it's very popular.

Anya is more unusual, but isn't weird and most people will have heard of it. I've only ever met one - she's Norwegian.

Anya also goes with the current trend for short vowel heavy names, but it's unlikely there will be another in her class.

ninox3 · 02/04/2020 10:44

Cara an anya
I love anya and I also know of a girl (she was little now grown up) an just makes me think of her. She is so lovely and sweet so yea anya
Evie is similar to eve an that's my niece. She's a cow lol x

PlantPotting · 02/04/2020 10:48

Cara and Eve gets my vote

TempsPerdu · 02/04/2020 20:46

Both nice but prefer Anya. It’s stylish and elegant and ages and travels well.

crazyquadmum · 03/04/2020 00:14

Please choose Eve. It is my middle name and was my mom’s name, I think it’s just beautiful and suited her throughout her life

MsTSwift · 03/04/2020 07:27

Yes Eve is lovely but everyone else thinks so too. Try navigating friendship issues with an 8 year old when all her friends were called Eve

“Eve was mean today and left me out but it was fine as Eve W was there can Eve A and Eve B come to tea? But not Eve she’s still being mean”

NoSauce · 03/04/2020 11:35

I think Eve is very different to Evie, Eva, Ava which are very popular. I don’t know any little Eve’s. Only one who’s 20z

Flymetothestars · 03/04/2020 11:49

@MsTSwift eve is nearly outside the top 200 names! 0.04% of babies given this name. Obviously it’s possible there’d be more than 1 Eve in a class but it’s very unlikely

MikeUniformMike · 03/04/2020 13:29

Eve is very similar to Eva, Evie, Evelyn, Aoifa, Ava, Ewa, Ivy.
Add them together and add other similar names and it seems very ordinary.

Eve has been around a very long time, but many of the others haven't, but currently I would avoid it.

MsTSwift · 03/04/2020 14:02

Not round here it isn’t. Every other girl is named a variant of Eve. One to avoid.

MsTSwift · 03/04/2020 14:02

So bored of it
