Kizette for girl

My wife is 14 weeks pregnant.

Don't know gender yet but I have been thinking of M and F names.

One that has stuck out in my mind is 'Kizette'. Maybe 'Kiz' for short.

I think something a little unique would be good for my kid but I don't want it to be weird. Some outsider perspective would be good.

I have done some Googling and it seems as if there is literally only one other person who's had that name before.

The first holiday my wife and I went on was to Paris. We went to the George Pompidou Centre which has a lot of modern art, including stuff by an artist called Tamara de Lempicka. She had a daughter called Kizette. Tamara de Lempicka isn't my favourite artist but I knew her paintings and was surprised and pleased when I found the originals, and I guess seeing them in Paris sparked my interest in art and art history.

Why on earth would you call a child that!

limpbizkit · 27/03/2020 17:36

It sounds like 'gazette' to me. You know you'll get an extra hard bashing on here because you're a man don't you?

TheWordmeister · 27/03/2020 17:37

Another one who thought it’s a brand name for a contraceptive.

limpbizkit · 27/03/2020 17:37

Oops just realised you may be in a same sex marriage. Apologies if that's the case Blush

Pomegranatemolasses · 27/03/2020 17:39

The heroine of my favourite childhood book 'The Diddakoi' was named Kezia, nn Kizzy.

Imho that's the only acceptable route you could take.

steppemum · 27/03/2020 17:46

we used to have a cat called Kizzy.
She was named after a children's programme about a traveller girl called Kizzy, called The didakoi.

My understanind (years later) is that both terms were really derogatory to traveller families?

Not sure though.

DartmoorChef · 27/03/2020 17:56

As a child my favourite book and tv series was Kizzy and i always wanted to call a daughter that if i had one. Or the full name of Kezia.

ScouseMar · 27/03/2020 18:02

Kizette does sound like a brand name for something like a contraceptive pill or anti- smoking tablets!

It also sounds v made up.

I do like Keziah and Cosette as previously suggested.

DS has a friend called Kizzy - short for keziah.

Kn0ckOnTheDoor · 27/03/2020 18:14

sounds like a smurf name. sorry op but a no from me

steppemum · 27/03/2020 18:20

Oh that's funny, 3 of us in a row with 'The Diddakoi!'

lalafafa · 27/03/2020 18:28

sounds like san pro

queenqueenqueen · 27/03/2020 18:29

Also think it sounds like a sanitary product

florascotia2 · 27/03/2020 19:11

The REAL name of Tamara de Lempicka's daughter was Maria Krystyna.
Kizette was a nickname.

Lize many other Mumsnetters, I'm not a fan of nicknames as given names. Surely better to give the child (and later the adult) a choice between dignity and cuteness.

CodenameVillanelle · 27/03/2020 19:12

Noooooo
Kezia is nice. Kizette is stupid.

YgritteSnow · 27/03/2020 19:14

Er what?! No.

LazyFace · 27/03/2020 19:26

That sounds like a contraceptive.

GrannyHaddock · 27/03/2020 21:09

It's awful; try a beautiful Russian name, Ksenia.

HoratioNightboy · 27/03/2020 22:57

As a fan of Tamara de Lempicka, I'd have recognised your inspiration because it is indeed a unique name - she does seem to be the only one. But sadly, I'd guess that's in part because it's not a very attractive name. It doesn't look nice and I can't think of any accent which would make it sound pretty. I would venture to suggest your possible daughter wouldn't thank you for it.

Tamara's quite nice. Smile

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 28/03/2020 03:12

Never heard of it! I might suggest Mackenzie or Cosette wuth Kizette as a nickname maybe?

Flordelice · 28/03/2020 07:57

Hate it, sorry. Keziah and Kizzy are both nice though.

AdriannaP · 28/03/2020 08:01

Sounds like Gilette to me.
Really don’t like itX

AWintersBall · 28/03/2020 08:17

I do know a Kizzy and always thought that was cool. Cosette is lovely.

Kizette sounds like a brand of feminine hygiene products...

s3tut0y3r · 29/03/2020 22:11

What about Kezia which can be shortened to Zia?
