Too similar?

CEL5417 · 21/03/2020 20:14

OH and I have just both agreed we like the name Flynn, however - OH has a much younger brother called Finley, sometimes called Fin.

I love Flynn and it works perfectly with out middle names and surname, but worry it sounds too similar to Fin - although we don't see them that often, would uncle Finley be too similar? Or am I just over thinking it all?

What do you think? Thank you Smile

Not too similar. You have chosen a beautiful name

Staffori · 21/03/2020 21:28

Why would it matter if it was similar? If you love the name, go for it.

Jossina · 21/03/2020 22:18

Not similar at all, not that it would matter much if it were.

NuffSaidSam · 22/03/2020 00:03

Flynn and Fin are very similar. They're almost the same name.

Whether it matters or not is up to you.

I don't think it matters.

Treescaper · 22/03/2020 07:24

To me they’re very similar, as pp said basically the same name.
Personally I wouldn’t but I’m sure it wouldn’t bother lots of people

pilates · 22/03/2020 07:29

They are similar, but if I loved it I would use it. Have you got any other contenders?

CEL5417 · 22/03/2020 07:51

@pilates only other possibles are Ezra, Arthur or Austin. None of which we "love" - I've loved Flynn for as long as I can remember, even before I was with OH, but have been debating the similarity ever since. OH doesn't think it's too similar, but something in me just keeps questioning it x

They are very similar but I don’t think it matters. Lots of children traditionally will have had the same names as uncles.

NuffingChora · 22/03/2020 08:03

If they were siblings - yes, too similar - but given that this is an uncle and nephew, I’m not sure it really matters? How often will they actually be said in the same sentence or quick succession? Hardly ever I’d guess.

Goostacean · 22/03/2020 08:12

Definitely too similar, sorry OP....

Goostacean · 22/03/2020 08:13

Oh, sorry! Thought they were siblings, I think uncle and nephew are fine.

cosytoaster · 22/03/2020 09:10

I also thought you meant siblings (in which case yes, too similar!) But an uncle with a similar, or even the same, name is absolutely fine.

Salamander91 · 22/03/2020 09:44

I don't think it matters but I may be biased as I have a Flynn Smile

Whatsyourflava · 22/03/2020 10:03

I LoVE Flynn and also don’t think it’s too similar but think it wouldn’t matter even if it was. Siblings would be different but not uncles - it’s a great choice!

DramaAlpaca · 22/03/2020 17:40

They are uncle and nephew, it's fine.

KittyJune · 23/03/2020 04:28

So surprised to hear posters saying they’re not similar - they literally rhyme! Flynn is just Fin with an ‘l’ in it.

CEL5417 · 24/03/2020 10:05

Thanks everyone! Majority seem to agree with OH that it's fine as uncle and nephew! I absolutely love this name and every time we say it out loud it just seems to sound better! ♥️

This still seems to be the only name OH and I can agree on.. I guess it's just my anxiety questioning the similarity. OH doesn't think it's an issue as the two won't be together the majority of the time.

Why is this so stressful? Keep reassuring me GrinConfused
