Adding a name to birth certificate but help needed

Name changed as don’t want people in real life who recognise this question to link it to my other posts!

I want to add the name Rose to my 9 month olds name for various reasons. Spoken to registry office & it’s straightforward under 12 months old so this is fine but I can’t decide which option to go for, can I have opinions please?

if you don’t like the names that’s fine but bear in mind please she’s already born and named!

First name is Isla. Options are:

Isla-Rose followed by current middle name & surname

Or

Isla followed by Rose as additional middle name

I know MN doesn’t like hyphenated names and I can’t decide whether or not it’s too much of a mouthful doing it that way or not and whether it would just be more sensible to add it as a middle name only?

TLDR: adding “Rose” to my DD birth certificate. Do I change her first name to Isla-Rose or just use Rose as middle name?

Which name are you going to use everyday? Are you going to address her as 'Isla' or 'Isla-Rose' when you speak to her? If just Isla, I'd add Rose as a middle name without the hyphen. If you'll use both names I'd add the hyphen.

Rose without the hyphen. She can still call herself Isla-Rose when she’s older if she wants, but she gets the choice.

I think we probably would still call her just Isla, maybe Isla Rose occasionally. I’m leaning towards not using the hyphen so you’re helping make up my mind!

Isla Rose SecondMiddleName Surname.

No hyphen, especially if she'll mostly just be Isla in everyday life, anyway.

Whydoesit · 14/03/2020 13:13

No hyphen definitely if you intend to still call her Isla and not always Isla Rose.

Omashu · 14/03/2020 14:09

There’s a woman on Instagram who’s daughter is called Lea Luna. They call her both names as if they’re hyphenated but they’re not. It works absolutely fine. She introduces herself as Lea Luna so nobody knows any different anyway. She does also get called Luna/Linus a lot too.

Omashu · 14/03/2020 14:12

Also -Rose names are very very popular so she might prefer having a name without the hyphen.

BadCatDirtyCat · 14/03/2020 14:14

No hyphen. As pp says you can still call her Isla Rose if and when you like.

PlantPotting · 14/03/2020 14:26

NOT a hyphen! Isla Rose is lovely as it is

Clangus00 · 14/03/2020 14:29

No hyphen

coffeeandrainbows · 14/03/2020 14:36

No hyphen. As someone with a hyphenated first ahem it can be such a pain when booking this like airline tickets (system doesn’t usually recognize it so I always have to enter it twice, first with a hyphen just in case and then again when it doesn’t which doesn’t sound that bad but having to do it every time is annoying). Also it’s equally annoying spelling my name over the phone so I would just save her the trouble and keep Rose as a middle name but call her Isla Rose if you want.

coffeeandrainbows · 14/03/2020 14:36

Name* obviously not ahem

Tardly · 14/03/2020 14:43

No hyphen please - if you do, she HAS to use the full name on all official documents etc. So if she hates it, that's bad. And as said above, it can be an administrative headache. You take away the choice to use it or not, basically.

However if you don't use the hyphen, both you and she can decide to use Isla Rose if you wish, so the option is there. And tbh that's a much more stylish option - somehow the hyphen seems naff and twee, but without it, a double name somehow doesn't - Jamie Lee Curtis, Catherine Zeta Jones - the examples are there, so it's fine!

Gemma2019 · 14/03/2020 15:39

Definitely no hyphen, they are lovely stand alone names

strawberry2017 · 14/03/2020 15:41

Just use it as a middle name. Sounds very pretty x
