Very unusual but I think it's pretty.

Lots of Mumsnetters do!
@HebeMumsnet (sorry, bet she gets this every time the name is mentioned)

WhatwouldRuthdo · 12/03/2020 22:38

I know one through work; she’s in her 20s. I think it’s pretty too.

Mmsnet101 · 12/03/2020 22:40

Yes, she's in her early 30s now. I didn't know it was a plant so thought it came from heebie jeebies if I'm honest Blush. It's grown on me as a name but maybe because she's a lovely person and the only person I've known with the name iyswim.

Ninkanink · 12/03/2020 22:42

@ManlyMenAreWe beat me to it! Grin

Verfremdungseffekt · 12/03/2020 22:46

One at Oxford. Now in her 40s, astonishingly pretty, willowy classicist. Last time I saw her was in a newspaper, and she was holding up some jewel-encrusted tiara at auction — poss a deceased royal’s stash?

I think it would be a rather harder name to carry off if you were a square-set, ruddy, five foot three.

BackyardChickens · 12/03/2020 23:04

How is it pronounced? Is it Hee-bee? Reminds me of the word hebejebes - when something freaks you out.

Solasum · 12/03/2020 23:07

Main character in a story called The Games Board Map

Verfremdungseffekt · 12/03/2020 23:09

That’s the other problem. For some people Hebe is the goddess of youth and cupbearer to the Olympus gods, or a shrub, but for others, as this thread demonstrates, it recalls only the heebie -jeebies.

Verfremdungseffekt · 12/03/2020 23:11

And that kind of person will inevitably say ‘Like the heebie-jeebies?’ as if it’s a brilliant and original insight.

astoldbyginger · 12/03/2020 23:11

It's a lovely name. Reminds me of Friends. 'P as in Phoebe, H as in Hebe, O as in Obie...'

PegasusReturns · 12/03/2020 23:15

Yes one. She’d probably be 18 now. Her father was insufferably smug and thought him and his wife were some sort of intellectual geniuses for choosing the name Confused

Pretty name though, he just put me off it.

Bezalelle · 13/03/2020 08:04

No, and it makes me feel a bit uneasy as it makes me think of "Heeb" - an anti Semitic slur.

userabcname · 13/03/2020 08:33

I taught one about 4 years ago. I thought it was quite odd but then my dc2 has an unusual name so who am I to judge.

CMMum88 · 13/03/2020 08:35

Yes I know a two year old Hebe 😊

ThanosSavedMe · 13/03/2020 08:36

I met one years ago and have love the name ever since. Love the plant too!

tegucigalpa13 · 13/03/2020 08:38

If you call her that you will have to send her to private school with the Tarquins and Clovises otherwise she will be teased!

It's a lovely name Op.

Yukaplantpot · 13/03/2020 09:08

how is it pronounced?

HebeMumsnet · 13/03/2020 09:08

All Hebes are marvellous and charming, therefore it is a great name.

sashh · 13/03/2020 09:15

I was at uni with one, fab woman.

Horsefeather · 13/03/2020 09:16

@HebeMumsnet, this is where you admit to being a willowy former classicist. Or that you spent your schooldays hiding in the loos and pretending to be called Emma.

HollySideEyes · 13/03/2020 09:19

Yes one of my daughter's friends. She a Uni student and a part-time model. Also a bit of a party animal. But then so is DD.

KittyJune · 13/03/2020 10:38

I know two - one British and one Chinese. They’re totally different in every way - looks, personality, etc - but it suits them both!

Isthistrueor · 13/03/2020 10:38

Yep, I know one in her twenties. Always makes me think ‘Heebie jeebies’.
