I'll tell you which ones I personally don't like:
Hermes - too much
Augustine - too saintly
Ernest - seriously ugly
Barnabas - religious

And the ones I like best:
Jonathan
Alexander
Christopher
Edward

The rest are OK too, all good classic names.

SylvanianFrenemies · 07/03/2020 00:47

Most are pretty inoffensive, solid names. I like Alexander (but it is pretty popular).

Hermes - I wouldn't inflict this. Most people with associate with a scrappy delivery company, or silk scarves, no matter the classical origins. Pronunciation also likely to be an issue. Also just doesn't sound very nice.

Augustine is pretty grand. Hard to picture a child/normal adult rather than a corpulent emperor in a toga. But it would depend what circles you move in.

SylvanianFrenemies · 07/03/2020 00:49

Scrappy = crappy

nimsem2 · 07/03/2020 00:51

I only like Louis Confused

nosleepp · 07/03/2020 00:52

I don’t like Barnabas, Ernest, Hermes or Augustine

AdaColeman · 07/03/2020 01:11

Hermes & Augustine get a huge NO from me.

Alexander Arthur Theodore & Louis are already hugely popular.

Charles with nn Charlie has been in top ten names for years.

Albert Henry & Ernest are a bit too Grandad for me, but others like them.

My favourites are Jonathan & Barnabas.
What about Bartholomew or Laurence?

GertiMJN · 07/03/2020 01:15

Hermes and Augustine would be a big no from me.
Others all fine names.

GlamGiraffe · 07/03/2020 01:24

I like alexander - I'd shorten to Xander (zander)
Like Albert (Bertie)
Theodore

Mish85 · 07/03/2020 02:01

MikeUniformMike · 07/03/2020 14:56

Charles - yes

Edward - fine but too many Teddys
Richard - ok
Christopher - ok, but Kit is overused.
Louis - ok, Royal baby
Barnabas - yes. Prefer Barnaby.
Theodore - dislike
Arthur - fine
Ernest - no (The Importance of being Earnest was a play on words as Earnest was slang for Gay; fastest milkcart in the west; Premium bonds)
Henry - ok
Hermes (like Greek God...) - No. More delivery company than luxury leather goods.
Augustine - not keen, Austin is better
Anthony - great but not keen on Ant.
Jonathan - great

Charlie, Barnaby, Jonathan and Anthony are my favourites, in that order. (10, 9, 8, 7 points respectively)
