Thoughts please, we have whittled it down to Tilly and Emma, what do you prefer?

Tilly is very cute, but if she has a serious job when she's an adult, she won't thank you for it.

CatteStreet · 29/02/2020 22:19

I don't agree with the 'serious job' stuff just because a name is nicknamish. It didn't hold Betty Boothroyd or Mo Mowlem back. I just think it's nice for the child if a nicknamish name has a 'full' name attached.

CatteStreet · 29/02/2020 22:20

(Aware those two individuals presumably had 'full' names too, but the point is the nickname-type names were the ones they went by professionally)

Emma. You could go for Emma Matilda.

mogtheexcellent · 29/02/2020 22:32

Emma. But then I'm biased as I have one. 😊

Only one in her large primary school as well. Apart from the head teacher 🤣

Emma unless Tilly is a nn for something.

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 01/03/2020 01:29

Matilda nn Tilly over Emma, but Emma over Tilly on bc.

Emma is classic but it always feels like a very safe choice to me. There are very few women I can picture that wouldn't suit the name Emma, so while it is lovely it doesn't have that special feel to it in my eyes. Then again, there's a reason it can be so widely used. I don't think it's a name I would regret using, but it wouldn't be my first choice either.

Emma

I'm an Emma and have never really liked it but I think that's because it was a very popular name when I was born (70's) so I grew up surrounded by lots of other Emmas. What about Tilda and Tilly as a nickname? Just a thought.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 01/03/2020 08:38

Emma.
I really dislike nicknames being using as full, proper official names. Matilda if you must.

KindKylie · 01/03/2020 09:24

Emma

Makes me think of Tilly and.....can't remember the name. Little girl and a big spider. Cbeebies programme.

BobbyBlueCat · 01/03/2020 09:30

Tilly isn't a name you give someone's. It's a nickname / abbreviation.

So if you weren't giving her a full name and using Tilly as a nickname, I'd pick Emma every day of the week.

Mamabear88 · 01/03/2020 09:56

Emma is a lovely name. Tilly not so much

campion · 01/03/2020 10:02

Emma.
If you call her Tilly she'll spend her life being asked what her actual name is...which would usually be Matilda. I do like Matilda.

MikeUniformMike · 01/03/2020 14:23

Emms or Tills?

123Dancewithme · 02/03/2020 22:38

Emma
