What do you think of the name

Arlo Arthur James Livingstone

Or

Arlo Mathew James Livingstone

Does it flow? Do you like it?

Thank you Smile

Doodlesquah1 · 24/02/2020 19:35

Too long IMO!
I hate the name Arlo too.
I like Matthew James Livingstone without Arlo

RhodaDendron · 24/02/2020 19:45

I love Arlo and think Arlo Arthur James is a beautiful name!

SomeLikeItTepid · 24/02/2020 20:00

I love both! Although that's probably not very helpful is it!?

ZebraKid71 · 24/02/2020 20:04

Alro isn't my style but Arlo Matthew flows much better than Arlo Arthur imo.

DramaAlpaca · 24/02/2020 20:06

I think Arlo Mathew James flows better.

Notso · 24/02/2020 20:08

Arlo Matthew James

Arlo Arthur is a bit clunky

luckymagnoliatree · 24/02/2020 20:30

I think Arlo Matthew James flows better, agree that with the surname it is very long. Do the middle names have a special meaning to you?

I have 2 middle names, one longer (9 letters) & one shorter (6 letters) which was fine with my short 5 letter maiden name... It's a pain now I'm married as my DH had a double barrelled surname already; so now I struggle to fit it on forms 🙈😂

Arlo isn't to my personal taste but I don't dislike it, if you love it then you should use it and not worry what others think 🙂

CLivvy · 24/02/2020 20:39

Thank you everyone :)

@luckymagnoliatree yes Mathew James both have special meaning to us. Mathew (yes with one T) is my Dads name, and James is the middle name of all the boys on my OH's side of the family - so we would be keen to have both :)

We're open to other suggestions on first names, OH is pretty set on Arlo, however I also like;

Kian
Ezra
Jude
Sonny
Isaac
Flynn

They're both lovely if the Arlo part was taken away!

If you're set on Arlo, then it works better with Matthew than Arthur.

Whatsyourflava · 24/02/2020 20:43

I absolutely love Arlo @CLivvy ❤️❤️
I don’t think middle names are that important to be honest- all of them listed sound good I think

CLivvy · 24/02/2020 20:47

Thank you @Whatsyourflava ♥️

It's not to everyone's liking, OH has his heart set on it and I do really like it too.

Just not sure it's the "one"

Any suggestions appreciated Smile

How about Arlo James Matthew? Flows better with James as the second name

user1493494961 · 24/02/2020 21:18

Arlo Matthew James flows best, I like Ezra and Jude on your list.

FluffyEggsontoast · 24/02/2020 21:20

I love the name Arlo @CLivvy - one of my favourites

If you like Arlo how about Milo or Otto or Hugo (prefer Arlo though)

FluffyEggsontoast · 24/02/2020 21:21

I actually love all your other choices

Ezra
Jude
Sonny
Isaac
Flynn

Are all really great. Don’t like Kian though

luckymagnoliatree · 24/02/2020 21:23

Oops sorry @CLivvy I didn't spot that Matthew only had one t in your op. I think it's lovely to include names that mean something to you both as middle names.

I think you have some really nice options on your list. I like Ezra, Isaac, Jude & Flynn.

I found naming both my boys really difficult (I think girls names are much easier 😂) and didn't decide until they were born. DS1 was "baby" for nearly a week 🙈 I was 99.99% sure throughout my pregnancy that he would be Zachary, but when he was born he just didn't suit it! His middle name was set from day 1 though (a family name). I think it's best to have a list of names you both like and then make a final decision once you meet him x

Charis1503 · 24/02/2020 21:24

We were gonna have Arlo.... but its soooooo common now :( and predominately with chavs!! I was sooo gutted.

We have a Reuben Arlo now. Pregnant with babyboy2 and thinking of 'Fletcher'

CLivvy · 24/02/2020 21:28

Thank you @luckymagnoliatree - boys names are so difficult!!

That's what I worry about @Charis1503 - OH is set on Arlo, but I'm not 100% and prefer others on my list.

OH has a much younger brother called Finley, sometimes called Fin. If we were to choose Flynn, do you think they sound too similar? I mean it would be uncle/nephew and not like they would be together all the time, however I'm not sure if they sound too similar!?

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 24/02/2020 21:29

I love Arlo Arthur James!

BackforGood · 24/02/2020 21:45

I think two middle names is a bit much.
Obviously you don't have to tell us if you think you might have more than one dc, but would it be a thought to save one of them for dc2?

I think if you are going to spell Mathew differently from everybody else, (except your Dad) then keep it as a middle name so he doesn't have to be correcting people on a daily basis throughout his life.

I like the names James and Matthew, and Arthur certainly fits with what I consider to be the 'old fashioned names' coming back round again.
Arlo isn't to my taste - but then, I've had my turn at naming dc.

CandyApple1995 · 24/02/2020 21:47

I would go with Arlo James Arthur, I think it flows better than Arlo Arthur James x

FluffyEggsontoast · 24/02/2020 21:48

Flynn with an uncle Fin is completely fine @CLivvy

Really love Flynn but still slightly prefer Arlo. The Arlo I know is definitely not a “chav” - he’s got the poshest parents imaginable and other son is called Rupert (another lovely name)

GU24Mum · 24/02/2020 21:51

I prefer Mathew in the middle name to Arthur.

I'm not sure I think that Arlo Livingstone flows all that well though because of the two L sounds together.

Astronica · 24/02/2020 22:37

If you use Arlo then Matthew sounds better in the middle. I'm not a fan of Arlo, and think Flynn woul be better - Uncle Fin will cope. I also prefer Kian and Isaac from your list.

luckymagnoliatree · 24/02/2020 22:43

I also think that Flynn with an uncle Finley is fine @CLivvy.

My eldest son and my eldest nephew both have 4 letter names starting with a C and we don't have any issues. Tbh we didn't even think about them sounding similar when we picked our DS's name! Sometimes my mum says the wrong name (but it doesn't bother me 😅). Is it something that your oh has mentioned when you've talked about Flynn? Does it bother him them being similar? If it does then it might one to scratch off the list.

I'll throw some other names out there (as I said before I'm not great at boys names), none of these may be to your taste at all...
Someone I know recently had a little boy called Felix which I think is quite a cool name, I actually met a little boy on holiday in the 90s called Felix and have loved it since then (but it's not one I could get past my DH)
Another quite cool/trendy name which another friend used was Dexter, she calls him Dex for short.
Dashiell (Dash)?
Albie?
Quinn?
I love Nathaniel (Nate) but it's probably a bit too long with your surname?
More traditional names like Wilfred (Wilf/Fred/Freddie), Ernest (Ernie), Oscar, Abel?
