Name dilemma

fayesum · 23/02/2020 12:38

So we have found out we are expecting another little boy, the name we have chosen was actually our second choice name when we were expecting our last child, so even after 4 years we still love the name, and no other name comes close, we have just discovered that our neighbours have chosen the very same same name for their little boy, I’m absolutely devastated.

What would you do?

A) Still use the name?
B) choose another name even if we don’t love it?

Could you tell us the name ? Is it very rare ?

Bezalelle · 23/02/2020 12:52

Devastated? Really?

Just use the name.

Charis1503 · 23/02/2020 12:52

Can it be shortened to anything?

Id still use it but make sure she is forwarned out of politness xx

Im guessing she is due first?

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/02/2020 12:52

How much do you actually have to do with your neighbours?

Bringmewineandcake · 23/02/2020 12:55

Use the name

BikeRunSki · 23/02/2020 12:56

You are unlikely to be neighbours forever, just use it.

DoTheNextRightThing · 23/02/2020 12:57

Just use the name! One of you will probably move eventually. Even if you don't, it really doesn't matter if two kids have the same name.

Tellingitlikeitisnt · 23/02/2020 12:57

Move house then use the name Grin

Mamabear88 · 23/02/2020 13:55

I'd use it. Close friends or family i'd say no but neighbours! Absolutely use it.

CaffiSaliMali · 23/02/2020 14:03

I'd use it too, if it's very unusual then I'd explain it was already chosen years ago in case it looks like copying. I'd only reconsider for the name of a close friend's child, or a family members child.

PeppaisaBitch · 23/02/2020 14:43

Depends how rare the name is. George/Oliver etc fine. Agamemnon maybe not.

BobbyBlueCat · 23/02/2020 14:49

Devastated? Jesus Christ....

Are you planning on being neighbours for life?
Are you going to endure those two kids are best friends and ONLY play with each other? For life?

Who cares?
Just call your kid what you want!

whitesoxx · 23/02/2020 14:52

Devastated? Overreaction. Just use the name, what is it?

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2020 15:57

Use it. One of you is bound to move house at some point.

Nowayorhighway · 24/02/2020 13:11

Depends how common it is really and whether this is your forever home or you think you’ll/they’ll move at some stage. Might be awkward if it’s a rare name, if it’s a common name then I wouldn’t think twice.

OddshoesOddsocks · 24/02/2020 13:20

We’re in a similar position OP and I’m absolutely gutted!
When you found out did you tell her that you were planning on using that name too?

I think we’re probably still going to use the name, it doesn’t bother me so much that we live so close as it’s unlikely that we’ll both live here forever however what’s bugging me is that they’ll be in the same class. I would pick another but with 8 weeks to go, nothing seems to be measuring up. I think it’s unfair to say ‘just pick another’ when you’ve had your heart set on a name

Bluebutterfly90 · 24/02/2020 13:26

Are you close to your neighbor? I barely talk to mine.

I did end up with a son whose name rhymes with my neighbor's son's name (like Jim and Tim) so she made a joke that when my son gets older and we're calling them in the garden it might get confusing.

If you're good friends it might be awkward but if you're just pleasant neighbours I would just use the name, and acknowledge it when you talk to them after baby is born. Say that you thought it might be awkward but you already loved the name.

Whatsyourflava · 24/02/2020 16:50

Let us know what the name is or at the very least what sort of number it is in the name charts

AlpacaGoodnight · 24/02/2020 22:29

Use it! You won't be neighbours forever!
