Don't know if we are having a boy or a girl yet, just throwing names around atm

What's everyone's thoughts on Nathan? It's not one I've seen mentioned much

I like it. It's a nice name. I'd have considered it if my surname had been different.

It appeals to my inner geek because of Nathan Drake, but it's an established name and people will not make the connection or assume you named your child after him.

If you like Nathan you can also consider Nathalie for a girl !

MotherAughra · 22/02/2020 21:51

@Wintersun13 it's funny you mention the connection! DH is an uncharted fan and joked about it as a choice with DD but I've actually grown to like it!

He's also suggested Lucas Arthur for its similarity to LucasArts, again actually growing on me Blush

I love the name Lucas ! And Arthur is my son's middle name.

Actually I may not have made the lucasart connection if you hadn't mentioned ot but maybe I'm just oblivious. Or I was too busy thinking how awesome Lucas is 😁 I know it is ridiculously popular nowadays but even that will not put me off the name. Couldn't use it for personal reasons but love it !

Between Nathan and Lucas... Tricky. Nathan is easier to shorten if that's a concern. I'd pick Lucas personally but both names are awewome.

Wintersun13 · 22/02/2020 22:21

Should mention - I picked Arthur as a middle name because Ser Arthur Dayne is just that awesome 😉 well, that and Arthur was supposed to be my brother's name until my father overruled my mother, so I thought it'd be a nice connection to our family history.

Prefer Lucas to Nathan

And Nathaniel to Nathan
But still also like Nathan if that makes any sense, just 2nd to the above. Both lovely names.

Harvey3 · 22/02/2020 22:43

Are you a One Tree Hill fan OP?! Prefer Lucas to Nathan but both are nice

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 23/02/2020 00:11

I love nathan.
Strong solid name. But nate?
That makes me shiver. Ugh.
Nathe is not bad.
I also like luke, Luca and Lucas

Whatsyourflava · 23/02/2020 00:12

Love Lucas Nathan and Arthur

Astronica · 23/02/2020 01:57

I much prefer Lucas over Nathan. Where I live, Australia, Nathan was a very popular name in the 80s and 90s, and now seems very dull and over-used. I do like Nate though, more modern and cool. I like Nate on its own or as a short form for Nathaniel.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 23/02/2020 02:11

I've never been a fan of Nate or Nathan but I'm not sure why! Nathaniel is a bit better but obviously would still be called Nate. I dont know - I want to love it but I dont. It's the name of one of my husband's best friends but not a bad association or anything. But its definitely a solid name that isnt overused!

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 23/02/2020 02:13

I'm very over Lucas and Luca so if it comes down to those I'd pick Nathan.

Or Arthur as a first name with Art as a nn is really nice as a first name!

smeerf · 23/02/2020 05:16

I have a little Nathan (although he much prefers to go by Nate now he's old enough to express a preference). I loved it because of the slightly retro 80s/90s vibe a PP mentioned. Also I thought he'd be the only Nathan in any class he's in as it's a bit rarer now, although in my area all the biblical names are really big for boys right now so there's lots of Gabriels, Isiahs, Nathaniels. His foreign in laws struggle with the th sound, which I didn't realise until too late but Natan sounds cute too.

Jossina · 23/02/2020 05:56

I prefer Nathan over Lucas, as it sounds better either on its own or in nn form (Nate/Nat). Plus, it seems there are less Nathans than Lucas' (Lucai?) lol.

Much prefer Nathaniel, shortened to Nate, more classy than Nathan. Dislike Lucas.
